Default My D16Z6 N/A build plan... have I missed anything?

My last car was an EG hatch with a JDM D15B Turbo, and I loved every second of it, so I've decided to stick with the D again for my next build. Only, this time I'm not going the turbo route... check out this potential setup I've been considering and let me know what you think- This is my first attempt at a N/A build and I just want to make sure I've got everything figured out right with this setup... anyways, here we go...

D16Z6 w/ B000 Tranny
11:1 CR domed pistons w/ .20 oversize
Eagle H rods
Block overbored .20
Block Guard
Hardcore headgasket (OEM thickness though)
Head ported, polished, and hot-tanked
OBX or Zex performance cam (haven't decided yet- input welcome)
Comp Cams Racing Valve Springs and Titanium retainers
Lighter, less frictioness (word?) racing valves
Skunk 2 intake manifold
LS TB w/ OBX TB Spacer
DC Sports 1-peice 4-1 headers
A stage 2 or 3 clutch
Fidanza lightweight (but not too light) flywheel
FPR and upgraded fuel pump (is fuel rail necessary as well?)
P28 chipped for better fuel maps and 8500~9000 (haven't decided yet) rev limiter
And on top of all this a 75 Wet shot of Zex.

My goals are 150-170 to the wheels N/A, and ~250 to the wheels on the juice... What do you guys think? Is this setup solid?

Thanks in advance for any intelligent and helpful responses.

motor and tranny are fine.
pistons and rods will be fine(what bearings will you be using?).
i've never ran a block gaurd, or had problems without one on a sohc, but thats your call.
run a Felpro Y8 headgasket. and invest in some ARP headstuds.
headwork is fine.
might want to look into a crower cam, seem to be superior than the zex.
Omnipower makes sohc valves and i believe i just saw an add and RAGE was having a sale on them.
IM is a decent choice.
run a 60mm TB port matched to the IM, LS is only 58mm. i dont really see a reason for the OBX spacer.
header choice is alright but you would really benefit from a nicer peice(bisi, smsp, anr, rage, etc)
clutch and flywheel choices are up to you.
FPR and pump will be alright, you dont need an aftermarket rail.
would recommend a good management setup. hondata if you cant tune. or uberdata, etc if you have the know-how to tune your engine, and access to a wideband.
dont really see the need to take your motor to 8500+ rpm.

Thanks for the input.

Forgot to put that I'm using 1400 degree aftermarket racing rod bearings.

Is there an OEM Honda TB that I could use that will be big enough (don't really want to drop $250 on a JG or Skunk2 one)... is a ITR TB bigger, and will it fit?

I added the TB spacer because I figured that the "tornado" effect it creates might help with the atomization of the Zex Nitrous/Fuel mixture.... it could possibly be BS, but for $50 shipped, it's worth a try.

I have no tuning capabilities so I guess I'll start studying Hondata.

And, finally, I wasn't sure if the high revving would be productive or not, but I know 9000 revs would sound BAD ***...

Thanks again. Any other intput guys?

He means good luck.

IMO I'd say your not too bad off, go with a bigger cam (exospeed regrind or maybe crower stage 3), a header proven to make more power (bisi/smsp), and a fully programmable ECU, but other than that, looks good.

Dont go with a pre-programmed chip, it would be such a waste, and you almost likely wont be making power at 8500 or 9000rpm. Well, cant say that. Contact builthatch on here, or register on d-series.org and talk to builthatch or agentjam, both are making 155+ on crower stage 3's.

Also with your bottom end, maybe go a tiny bit higher compression. I think both of them are at 12-12.5 CR on pump 93-95 octane.

ACL bearings are good.
GSR and B16 have 60mm TB. ITR has 62mm.
the spacer is bullshit. if you want atomization, run carbs.
i personally would probably shy away from the forged internals and nitrous, run stock rods with P29 pistons, and spend the money on a better header, 4.9FD, and big cam and just stay NA. but to each their own.

your buildup seems alright. I would probably (like lohatch said) go with stock rods, and P29 pistons. You don't need the fuel pump or fuel rail, and ditch the T/B body spacer, and blockguard. I recommend running a Crower 2 or 3 cam, both of them I've ran, and they're both great. The DC 4-1 header is pretty decent - maybe customize the collector to 2.5". The most important thing is gonna be your tuning, so try to get some dyno tuning, or at least some wideband tuning. Good luck

Good ideas, but I'm really set on Nitrous... haven't tried it before, and can't wait to. Rode in my buddies DOHC ZC powered CRX with a 50 shot of dry nitrous and I absolutely could not believe the power it produced. I had never considered it until then, but now all I can think about is if a 50 shot dry felt that good, what would a 75 or 100 shot wet feel like!?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by jlacoy82 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Dont go with a pre-programmed chip, it would be such a waste, and you almost likely wont be making power at 8500 or 9000rpm.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Yeah, I was a bit iffy about that chipping idea anyways... I'll be ditching it.

I originally chose the 11:1 ratio because it seemed like a safe, yet power producing number. I'd love to go higher but I'm worried about the nitrous... would it be okay to shoot a wet 75 or 100 shot into an engine with a 12~12.5:1 ratio, even with forged internals? Could it handle that? I know CRs are a factor in turboed and supercharged applications, but does the CR matter with nitrous?

Also, thanks a million for the replies guys. Awesome input- you're helping me out a lot.

Oh, and I forgot... will the 60mm GSR TB bolt on to the Z6 mani?

And another thing- I just saw that Zex was having a special on their flywheels for $150... are Zex flywheels garbage? I don't think I've ever heard of anybody using one before. If they are decent I'll have to pick one up at that price!

You can run 12.5:1 on 93. Nitrous is fine with forged internals but if you want to use a 75 or 100 shot, just go turbo. Otherwise what is the point of building it all motor?

Your list sounds like something a 15 year old put together after browsing H-T and looking at magazines. Too much to explain, PM'd.

I want to build it all motor so I can have decent power all the time, then when somebodies giving me a little more than I can handle I just flip that little Zex switch and away I go... but I'm not trying to bild a street beast, just a mildly badass daily driver. I've already been the turbo route and I wanted to try something different this time. Plus I'm trying to go sleeper with this one, and turboes are definitely not as sleeper as this build with nitrous will be.

And yes, this is my first time doing anything like this, so yeah, I did put this list together by browsing through Honda-Tech... but I've done my studying and I know (for the most part) what I'm doing. Just wanted to make sure with this post, and so far it has been very helpful. Anyways, isn't that the point of H-T- to browse and find the info you need? What's wrong with that?

nah you are on the right track. your reasoning with staying around 11:1 with the nitrous is good, and it will also be a lot easier to daily drive depending on what fuel you have access to. i didnt know how set you were on the nitrous. i personally would either rather go NA or just turbo it. after dealing with bottle refills, bottle pressure, etc. i would rather have the power on tap all the time, whether it is coming from an NA motor or a turbo motor.

Yeah, I can understand that... Truth be told, I can see myself tiring of the nitrous within sixth months and ending up swapping the high comp pistons for some low comps and going turbo again.... but until then I'll have lots of fun with the spray.
