Default Road Atlanta SARRC Video

Here is a clip of the SARRC group 2 (ITA/S/7) start from Sat.

DOWNLOAD Quicktime5, 21MB

I had a not so great weekend. Had I ran the 1:45.5-1:46.XXXs I ran back at the Aug SEHC weekend, I could have finished top 5 overall. The best I could muster was a 1:48 though. The car is a bit better then last year. Less push and bit more power. It didn't help that I had a brain fade in the turn one brkaing zone on about lap 3 of the first practice session. Locked up and ate the inside wall. Thankfully it wasn't anything a little hammering and racers tape couldn't fix, but the spin squared off 3/4 tires and corded one. These things already had 4 races on them from last year and weren't in the best condition in begin with. I went to the Apalachian toss off pile and found one good RA1 and we were good to go.

Qual and and race went okay-- well at least I didn't hit anything. I suck at this racing thing, but at least it is fun.

At was nice to see some of you again and nice to finally meet Gregg Ginsberg. Sorry your weekend didn't turn out better. I should be at the SARRC/MARRS at VIR once I get the front end fixed up.

Edit: For name fade ...

Sorry about your damage. I seemed to have taught you all my tricks Hopefully its the ego that took the bigger hit, they are cheaper to rebuild. Adam Ginsberg the CMC (or is it American Iron) guy???

Not sure where I picked up that trick from, but I have to work on my non-ABS braking technique.

Gregg Ginsberg .. sorry. I was calling him Adam all weekend as well; not sure why.

Twas me, Adam. My 1st time to R/A was certainly a weekend I'm looking to forget. Let me count the ways

1. Leave DC at 3am Thursday...just as a nice little snow storm hits
2. My motor grenades during my 2nd practice session on Friday. Thanks to Tom Fowler and the wonderful staff at OPM for getting me set up w/ another motor in time for Sat. AM practice / qualifying.
3. The motor (a 15yr old Showroom Stock motor) is faster than I am. I qualify 9th in ITA after running 1:50.something. Since I've never been there before and missed out on my of the Friday practice I guess this is OK.
4. After a great jump on the start and sneaking around a couple of cars that spun at T1 on the 1st lap, I was up to 4th in ITA.
5. The Miatas that ran just before us left the track mostly covered in Red Jorjuh Clay.
6. (Still on the 1st lap) I go off at T6 and hit the cement wall, pretty much making my pretty small Rex even smaller -- I think you can see this in Zsolt's video.
7. As evil handling as the car is, I decide to soldier on, repassing many of the backmarkers, Each time I pick up a head of steam I spin (I lost count at 4)...guess that happens when the rear tires are pointed every which way.
8. I finally decided I just might be a menace out there and pulled in...just as the checkered flag flew.
9. I'll be leaving Charlotte, NC Monday AM for DC, just in time to drive into another snow storm (6-10" predicted).

You can find a few crappy cell phone pics of the damage here:

http://www.ginsberg.org/galler...9ZT6E

So, I just need to build a race motor and straighten the car out by the April 23rd (MARRS I). There goes this year's race budget.

On a brighter note, it was very nice meeting Zsolt, Bowie, Giles and Renee for the 1st time, as well as seeing Lyonel and Schultz once again. It had been too long. And thenks again to all the kindness the OPM staff showed throughout the weekend.

If anyone wants to host it I have video from both SAARC as well as the ECR... I do have good in-car from the crash if anyone wants to see what happens from in car when you hit the wall multiple times in a civic coming out of T12.....

While the video makes you say "damn!!"...our damage pics don't look that bad considering....until you really look at the pillar as well as the fact that the car frame is boomerang shaped on the drivers side now....we weren't thinking "new chassis" until we really looked after returning to Knoxville.

One thing we are certain of- the new/next cage will have nascar bars for sure.

Lyonel/Danielle I would love to see some pics of your damage. Specifically in the driver's area.

Keep the vid under at 20MB or less, and I can host it.

<-- Hit the wall at turn 12 before.

Good bit more power. I was 5+ MPH faster on the front and back straight, even with my horrid execution on 10 and 7.

The RA meter read 94-97db, but it is a bit loud in the car. I will use ear plugs next time.
