Can an Undervolt cause the Main relay to fail? (92 Civic DX 1.5)
Ok, Hopefully I can explain this in a way that is understandable. Hopefully someone who knows about this problem will read this.
Ok, My car started acting up.
Would run fine, however recently it started, well actually it didnt start. That is my problem, it tries to crank over and wont start. After doing some wrench work I found out that I have no power to my fuel pump and no power to my distributor.
I replaced the Main relay, I replaced my ECU, I replaced my entire distributor with a new one and a set of cables plugs cap and rotor. I have been through two brand new Distributors during my experiments. One AC Delco and one was a Honda. BTW, the Genuine Honda distributor makes my car run SOOO much better than the crappy Autozone AC Delco.
Now I noticed that I still have the same problem. Doing all these things has not remedied my problem as I still have no power to my fuel pump and distributor. I have learned that both of these components are dependant on the main relay fuse. But I have replaced the main relay. I have learned that I have an undervolt problem. The mechanic tells me that I should have a 14-15 volt reading off the battery and that Im only getting 13 volt. I have also learned that my alternator is dying and could be the cause of this.
Can an undervolt of this nature cause a main relay failure?
Could this be my problem?
Also note that my civic will not give any error codes unless my engine is running, no one has yet been able to explain this to me. But I must conclude that a possible open circuit is responsible or perhaps I have no errror code. Hmmm.
I will replace my alternator to try and resolve the undervolt issue.
If this does not resolve the problem then I will be forced to assume that it is an open circuit somewhere or perhaps a short or bad connection. Thus I will take the next step and replace both the cab and engine wiring harnesses.
