Sorry for the OT: Can someone loan me $50K and one session at the track of your choice?
Sweet Mother of Christ....

Sorry I'm bored at work and found this somewhere else. Thought I'd share.
It's already up to $37,000 and still has a week left?
I'm guessing $50K, but for some reason I think I may be horribly mistaken.
This is how a GNX should have been built. Could you imagine that thing going up the esses and around Oak Tree?

That's beautiful.....I just saw one on the freeway last week and started checking prices for them later that day our of curiousity.
I've always wondered though, what's the difference between a Grand National and a GNX?

Vague memories say the performance figures were well above what the claimed power should have been able to generate. They could easily outaccerate the same year of vette despite being heavier. I seem to remember a stronger rear axle too. If that thing actually handles and stops, it already could go, it could be really something on a track. Fun or terrifying?
A friend of mine had a new GNX and I drove it a couple of times. It was a one trick pony, but damn it did its one trick extremely well. 0 - 100 was just amazing.
He blew a couple of transmissions out of it, and a diff too I think. All under warranty

The GNX was the 2nd car i bought in GT4. I have loved that for a long time, it just looks so mean. One of the only Buicks I would ever like to own.
After racing my GNX, I went to ebay and found that exact car.

Curious since the T5 was offered in the tpi 5.0 which made around 300lb/ft in the camarobird. They may not have had that version available when the gnx was built though.

I would not want to be in a GN or GNX over 120mph. it's a dam brick and would be very unstable at high speeds.

Ah, I love GM's mentality. If it isn't in the current parts bin, it can't be done. God forbid they should design a new manual transmission for your new superstar car!
Don't get me wrong, it's the coolest Buick Regal I've ever seen. It's just that my statement really doesn't say a whole lot. Sort of like saying it's the biggest MG I've ever seen...

a friend of mine back in the day (10 yrs ago or so) had a 1987 Monte Carlo SS fastback (fairly limited production unit; not the common squared off unit; this had the slanted rear window). he had a shop pull the original drivetrain and install a 1967 427 corvette engine with a Doug Nash racing 5 sp racing tranny. 9" ford rear. custom 3" exhaust.
other than a slight hood bulge and the chrome Corvette Rallye wheels, this thing looked stock. interior was perfect; stock dash and gauges, and a hand fabbed up Long shifter coming out of the factory floor console. looked like it had rolled out of Chevy just like that....
until you started the motor
glubba lubba glubba lubba vrroooooooom! blubba glubba lubba!
the stock 427 wasn't enough, so it was hotted up a little; cams, headwork, bigger carb, headers, etc.
Ed let me drive it a time or two; holy cow it was a smile induction machine. nothing, and i mean nothing, sounds as good as warmed over big block machine winding out to 7k rpm and banging up thru the gears.
the thing was on stock suspension and brakes, so it really didn't handle or stop any better than a stock SS monte carlo (maybe a little worse with that big block sitting where a little old 305 had resided); but it was fun fun fun to drive. mash that ***** in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd and it would LEAP out, screeching tires and bellowing engine.
now, slap some real suspension on that and a set of Baer brakes, and it would have been a neato track sleeper.
Ed sold that car a long time ago; offered it to me for $8500. i remember thinking "neat car, but way too much $$
" he took the money and bought a nice used 911 Carrera.
oh, and i don't really think that either the Monte SS or the Buick Regal would be too unstable at speed, especially with a few suspension tweaks. i mean, damn, back in the early 80's i remember them testing those cars in stock car racing trim and hitting 240 mph with them at the TRC test track!

Another example of that is the Typhoon/Syclone. They used the 4WD GMC Safari transmission, so they had to put a "torque limiter" on the motor from like 2500-4500 RPM. Not sure if that was accomplished with ignition retard or what.
At least, that's what I remember reading in the original C&D Article.

Understeer on entry, oversteer on exit, blast down the straight-aways like a ****, aero lift like a 'Buick' at 140 mph, spew transmission fluid by the end of lap #2, fade its brakes (yes, even those handsome Baers) by lap #3 and blow a rear diff by lap #4.

LMFAO! My Corvette would do all of that on lap 1. And people ask me why I don't track it....
