Default Question concerning custom headers...(hytech, an-r, prospeed, smsp etc)

I'm guessing by the look of the pictures for each header, that the header comes in 2 pieces from the start, and as you install it, you're supposed to weld them together, seeing how there arent any flanges?

I live in the great smog-concsious state of Cali, and as such, if i were to get one of these headers, i would be installing the stock manifold in order to pass emissions. Now one the welds have been made, i assume it would be impossible to take off the header without cutting the welds.

My question is, could i solve this by simply welding on a flange between the 2 peices? Thanks alot guys, im countin on ya

I can't speak for AN-R and Prospeed but for the SMSP and the HyTech headers they use slip joints. You just need to bolt them up, no welding involved. But if you did have to weld it, to take it off you'd have to remove the lower sub frame to get them off. It's not impossible, but it's annoying.

you want to weld a flange at the connector between the two pieces of header? bad bad bad idea. thats how i toastes 2 oil pans.

they are a slip fit style design. i.e. one pipe has a 2.5" indide diamater (id) and the other one is a 2.5" outside diamater (OD). that way they are a nice tight fit and you do not have to flange it.

however you will need to get a flange welded onto the bottom of the header for the cat / test pipe to line up. you will need to install it, measure it (like 50 ****** times to make sure), mark it and then weld it.

In this picture you can see 2 tabs on the primary collectors

They slide along the 2 tabs on the primaries and then you use a 1/4" bolt to bolt them together.

The same is used on the secondaries but you just can't see it in the first picture.

Hey everyone I didnt wanna start a new thread so im just addin on some questions. I currently have a set of US DC Headers 4-1 with a 2.25 collector but I want to get rid of em for something more powerful. I found these. Can anyone comment on the following headers?

Hytech Honda Type R:
(United States Patent #D484,513)

HyTech's full exhaust system for the Type R produces 20 HP and 22 lbs of torque, with the aid of tuning devices like cam gears and an Apexi VAFC. This Type R design comes form the CART Toyota Atlantic series, where HyTech is on virtually all of the competitors cars. The system is full stainless steel and comes with 2 1/2 cat and our own double bypass stainless muffler for the quietest ride and the least restrictive on the market.

Cat Back:
Hytech's Type R cat back systems was designed to maximize our Type R header. Constructed out of 2 1/2 inch light weight 304 stainless steel and mandrel bent. This system comes in two different ways with or without our 100,000 mile OEM cat. This is a superior cat to anything on the market today. Used in all our exotic car conversions like the McLearn F1 road car and Ferrari Modena. We use it simply because it is the best unit available. Also incorporated is our own custom resonators. The resonators help in noise reduction while not hurting the exhaust flow. And to top it off our twin loop acoustic muffler and tip. This is the quietest system that is on the market today which does not sacrifice any power loss compared to an open header.

JDM ITR Headers: I had a hard time findin a description of this header.

I did find this though
