Default

actually there is no bolt that goes there. on my 96 civic, D16Y7 theres no bolt there, and unless you have the EX its the same motor. looks like dirt collected on oil though. I think your valve cover gasket is leaking. Get that gasket replaced, its a thin rubber lining thats not too expensive.

you can go to a goodyear place, or sears, pretty much any auto shop or place that does maintanence work can do it. Its 5 bolts to remove the valve cover, so its a simple thing to do. Any shop could verify what it is, but it really looks like that gasket leaking to me. if you want to do it yourself, go to a Honda dealer, get the part, and also get some "liquid gasket" which you simply apply to this rubber gasket (it helps make a nice watertight seal.)

Isn't that the spot where the engine should be grounded?

I'm going for a smoke, and I look at my y8.

i think that hole is there so you can screw in something so you can get the valve cover off easier. i would not recommend using that hole as a ground. i wouldnt worry about a leak, thats just normal build up.

You have no problem there. Same hole in my 97 Y8. Like others said it would not be a good ground point anyway. Best used for a mounting bracket to hold a cable etc.

My 98 y8, that hole is used to ground from the radiator support to the valve cover.

Look where the hole thing is, and if theres thread in there then it probally requires a bolt

What ? Why would you ground the radiator ?
My 97 Y8 has this hole and it looks like its tapped but there is no hole below it in the head. Since the valve cover has a gasket/rubber it does not make sense to ground anything here.

Your gasket is leaking because over time the gasket drys out and begins to crack, thus causing a leak.

Yeah I'm an idiot, I went out and checked later this afternoon and found it to be just an empty bolt hole.
