Default '88 Accord LXi Tran+Clutch+Brake problem

88 LXi 4 door w/EFI
230K Miles...
Tranny is "whining" in 5th gear but still goes (probably not for long haha)
Honda Mech. said whole tranny needed replaced b/c the 5th gear thing can't be fixed on its own?
Should I just get the tranny and clutch rebuilt or get salvage parts? Clutch is slipping @ high temps badly.
Any recommends for places to do either in the Midwest?
I hate the fact that aftermarket mods aren't really made for 88's as well

$5K+ invested on this $2k car, talk about a money pit

Also, my whole front end shimmys and shakes badly when I press on my brakes... I think it's the calipers? Maybe the anti-rattle springs? I had brand new rotors and pads put on not too long ago. It fixed it temp. but it came back...

you have to take the 5th gear off of these transaxles to get the case off... that honda mech is trying to get you for a hwole transaxle...

for the front end, i'm gonna have to say calipers... try that and see if it fixes it

oh I meant Transmission
When I engage 5th gear it whines esp ~55 mph+
I thought it was a throwout bearing but I could be wrong
