Default OverHeating

so ive been overheating lately and narrowed down my problems to this.

1. my fan does not turn on. but works cause i wired it to the battery.
2. code 6 temp sensor. trying my other one off my hf.
3. when i test drove my car only the top rad hose was hot. so i came to the conclusion that its faulty. i have my other one but imma get a new one cause i tested them both under water and dont know either are good imma buy one today and see what happens.

my question is why doesnt my fan kick on? i tested the wires and 1 gets full power but other ones gets half of it.

your fan switch may be bad..

thermostat does not matter... the fan switch is on the back of the block..

when you know you have the car hot enough that the fan should be on..

Disconnect the rad fan plug and check to see if its continous on the motor side

cooling systems are pretty basic. water flow = less heat. you have a problem with flow somewhere. feel the upper and lower rad hoses when the car is running. they should feel about the same temp, if they dont you probably have a bad thermostat (spelling?). another way to test the thermostat is to put it in boiling water totally submerged, if it doesent open, its bad.

radiator hoses just leak, thats not the problem of over heat unless kinked. next thing that may be the problem is just a plain old bad rad. you should notice debrie in the over flow bottle and in the rad cap if it is bad (doubt that).

check your thermostat.

edit: you want to be running that fan pretty much the whole time your driving it, ecpecialy in the city. until you get the fixed

overheating problems have been haunting my 1990 crx for a year now. with the changing temperature and intense heat of the summer, it would be nice if i could drive my car more than twice a day during july-oct.

i think your radiator might be clogged.

I remember reading a thread about that a few months back. if you were local i'd let you "borrow" my spare till you can get one (if you needed it)

whenever my car was idling it would overheat, but when i started moving the fan would kick back on and the temp would go back down.

if you take the two wires on the back of the block and splice them together, or connect them with a plug, the fan will run continuously whenever the car is on. that’s what i did to "fix" the problem
.

Have you ever done anything to the cooling system? If so, try bleeding the system. Just leave the radiator cap off and let the car warm up.

The fan may not be turning on because of the coolant temp sensor (code 6). This tells the ECU when to turn the fan on. Under normal circumstances, the car won't over heat though if the fan isn't working...
