Are OEM Honda Ignition Wires NGK's?
Well, my friend just had her timing belt and waterpump done so I decided to change the plugs and wires also since we seafoamed it a while back but never serviced it. Anyways, I told my shop to order OEM wires from the dealer and I supplied them with the NGK plugs.
Came to find out it wasn't the NGK Blue wires that I was expecting, it was some black wires called petrolite or some crap. My Mechanic says that he feels these are better and since they are OEM why not? But I tend to go with what's proven which is NGK Blues. So what happpened? Was I misinformed that OEM's were NGK Blues?

It's 'Prestolite'.....and I have read that these are OEM. NGK's may be just slightly superior with insulations specs, blingy blue color etc. and are priced about the same if you do alot of shopping for best pricing. Prestolites are fine/stock put 'em on.
This can be nit-picked to death. Somewhere in a Honda forum I saw a spec comparison with several brands. NGK HE series and Prestolite were very close in figures. Then there is this comparison (link below) indicating NGK much better then Prestolite.
If you search alot you will find Prestolite listed as OEM and NGK as OEM !
Like I said ......put the Prestolite set your mechanic has on. They are fine. Besides if you told the shop to order OEM wires you should not expect them to be Blue !
This is the link with negative Prestolite results but I REALLY question it.

The brands will vary, but they will all most definitely be black if considered as an OEM replacement.
Personally I've only seen sumitomo (like the tires) come directly from honda. Then again this is also like asking who supply's honda's oil filters, this changed recently and will very likely change again.
The most correct answer to the question is that the brand of OEM honda ignition wires is whatever brand the honda parts department is currently stocking.....

I told the shop to order the wires because I was under the impression that the NGK Blues were OEM.
Sonic BlueTeg-Is Prestolite a division of NGK or did Prestolite outsource to NGK in order for you to make that comment? I'm just tryin to clarify.
I'm not after the NGK Blues for bling factor, I'm after them for function as I understand that they are one of the best to use. I guess it might just vary from dealership to dealership on what brand they stock. Thanks

I would go with OEM wires and the OEM ignition are not made by NGK. It is made by Sumitomo and the NGK blues are the samething as the Sumitomo.

Original stock wires may be Sumitomo but the NGK HE series blue wires I used as replacements are alot different than the originals.

all wires nowadays are to OEM spec so bascially any wire set you go out and buy is gonna be OEM...or close...
