weight reduction poll
I was thinking of doing this to my prelude. My reasoning is that it will save weight, be easy to clean, will keep my interior clean(Because the carpet and floor mats will be sitting in my garage), and, as an added benefit, will add some red accent to my black and red interior. Please vote and give a reason for your choice, thanks.
The Prelude also has sound-deadening/padding material on the floor under the carpeting. It is on with some adhesive, and it will need to be scraped off. Also important to note is that your floor underneath may not be uniformly painted the same color of your car. Also, your floor with be slippery as hell when it is wet it could be very dangerous.
I would guess you might save 7-10lbs removing the carpet and insulation... Really not worth it IMHO.

I say leave it stock just because I don't really see the advantages outweighing the disadvantages. I think it looks nice on Civics and Integras just because it makes them look more like a "race car". The Prelude is a lot bigger car and it seems kinda silly to go for this look. That's really the way I see it, your not saving an extreme amount of weight more or less going for a "look". In my opinion this "look" doesn't work for the Prelude. Keep it stock, hope that helped.

If it's only 10 lbs, it's not worth it, and it is kinda ugly w/out. I knew there was material between the carpet and the metal, also known as a firewall or soundbearier. I have seen this material from when I removed my back seats, it looks like little plates of tar or something. I was thinking about removing the firewall, to loose weight b/c I was under the impression that all that tar actually weighs "a lot", I have heard this, but can't actually tell how thick the tar is, and have no idea how much it weighs. Also heard thats why ITR's have no firewall at all under there carpet, to leave off some weight. So is this really only 10 lbs??? I'm not going to go through the hassle if that's all it is. If anyone knows a definite # in lbs, it would be a great help, thanx.
The firewall is between the engine and the cabin, not under the carpet. I'm still waiting for honda318 and JGs replies. I'll probably still do it, regardless of the pol,l because there haven't been enough cons brought up. My car hardly ever gets rained on, I don't really care too much about how it looks, and weight reduction is everything. And it's not like I can't put it back if I don't like it.
its ugly, not worth it. the girls will get in and think "damn this guy is a freak", its noisy, oh yeah its ugly, and vacuuming metal isnt a whole lot harder than vacuuming carpet. when you scrap all that off the floor youll have scratches everywhere (ugly). it will be louder inside. if you want to "lose weight" so bad why not pull the jack and spare tire out. then pull the trunk guts out. and maybe te backseats, (all of the above are easily reinstalled) carpet is not though without lookin ty as hell. how bout you go on a diet and YOU lose 10 pounds then it would be the same difference. and youd still have a non-ugly interior. do me favor man please dont pull the carpet and out. youll thank me one day i promise.

2. They are coming out too.
3. I don't have 10 lbs to lose, unless it's muscle mass.
man im just tryin to keep it funny. but anyway i would seriously think about it. its only 10 pounds (max) and that aint to be honest, try this (if possible) run a baseline run, then pull all that stuff out (from the back seats to the trunk lining) and if you notice a difference or get a better run then think about the carpet but im tellin you from experience i pulled everything (except carpet) from the passenger seat back and it wasnt a noticable difference to be honest. if you plan on making it a race only vehicle id say hell yeah go for it pull every damn thing out but since you will have to look at the metal scraped up un matched slippery ugly floor every day i would think twice. just tryin to help.
I can always throw some floor mats in, but I really need to know how much weight I'll save. Basically anything that I can do to go faster, that doesn't involve putting out more hp, sounds like a decent idea to me. Also I can get the interior sprayed to match the exterior for pretty cheap.
I with on that one bro. Evey little things count in winning and going faster.....Not a bad idea though.
I'm going to invest on that........., I can set it so that I can be easily to remove, but I need something that reduces the vibration, ANY IDEAS>>>

Change your battery to a civic (integ) one. Remove under-car exhaust heat shields. Remove front/rear bumper supports (if you're brave). Remove brake shields. Lighter seats. No interior in the rear. About 60lbs.
Everything can be replaced in a day, carpet, rear interior, when a hot-date comes up. My x-gsr seats in the rear were snap to fit, removes in 1.8 minutes.
As for vibration, leave little squares of the anti-vibration material where the original one was. Or.....remove all the stock anti-vib stuff and get the spray......

They are pretty heavy, but unsafe to "just" remove. The JDM ITR has a ~1" square tubing in place of the front bumper support. Good idea to replace front/rear ones in a Lude.....
Is this for drag racing or road racing? You wouldn't need sway bars for a drag race. And a good thing to do for a weekend drag race is to, somehow stiffen rear suspension......

I'm trying to figure out if it would be worth removing the bumper supports or not. I'm not going to cut them, because if I ever sold it and then the new owner gott into a front end collision, I could be sued. It's either remove them or leave them.

Why did the person who voted to keep it stock, vote that way?
doing that will make your car what like .03 faster on the 1/4th?
