Default Hey Mike K! Magnetic drain plugs?

Hey Mike,

A long, long time ago, someone on the board stated that Preludes came with a magnetic drain plug on the tranny, while the B-Series trannies don't........

Do you know if that was correct, and if so will the H-part fit the B-piece? How much do they go for?

Thank you!
John

The Pep Boy magnetic drain plugs work fine in the motor. However, they have a fairly long magnet that extends quite a ways, and one member indicated that he screwed up his FD by using a magnetic drain plug with an extended tip.

So I thought that I'd try this possibility for the tranny.

Thanks though!

When you compare a Spoon tranny mag plug to that of Pepboy's, Pepboy's magnet is longer by about 1/3". All you need to do is cut/grind the Pepboy's magnetic plug using Dremel.

So would it be okay to use it as is, out of the box? I have yet to put my pepboys plug in but i will be dropping the oil very soon and was wondering about that.

I don't think so. You need to grind/cut off the magnetic tip by 1/4-1/3".

.....I went to pep boys the other day but couldn't find the right size, thread and pitch of the magnetic drain plugs to use for tranny and oil pan.

What is the size, thread, and pitch of the tranny drain plug and oil drain plug?

Are these things really useful?
The oil filter will filter out the crap anyway

I think the 89 Accord or 86 Legend has a tranny drain plug that is magnetic from the factory. Gotta check...

But I'm not sure about the Preludes.

FYI, all A/T have magnetic from the factory but the plug is too big.

Ken - you need a second set for your _2_ ITR engined project? (i.e. Hyundai Tiburon. ) I think the thread is M15 (?). I can't remember correctly, but if you go to the Pepboy's by Jeff's house, it's on the 3rd row, 1st column on the display shelf.
