When I did my swap, I didn't care about the freon*. I just unscrewed everything, illegally expose it to the atmosphere, chill in the house for a good 20 minutes, came back and removed the whole system.
make sure when u evac the AC system you jam a screw driver into both recepticles. wrap a bunch of shop rags around the screwdrivers when you do this. and cover anything you dont want stained a flourescent green.
and im pretty sure its not freon in your car. prolly R-134. i dunno when honda stoppped using freon, so actually evaccing the system isnt bad for the atmosphere, its just illegal.
MAKE SURE NOBODY SEES YOU EVAC THE SYSTEM INTO THE AIR.
you could get hit with some hefty fines if you are spotted by any one that cares.

Wait, I thought the whole point of the switch to r-134a was the fact that It wasn't harmful to the atmosphere. So what would make venting it to the atmosphere illegal?

well freon isnt completely illegal, it is illegal in automobile use.
my friend works in HVAC and said that freon (R-12) is still used but not as widespread. u have to have permits and **** to use it. but venting either R-12 or R-134 into the atmosphere is still illegal. theres just govt regs about it.

whatever it is, be EXTREMELY careful when your unbolting anything. I made the mistake of just going at it with my tools and the compressor blew up in my face-> sucks REALLY bad.

omg how the hell diod that happen? its like a couple blots, a belt, and like 2 brackets, a couple of lines. I didnt know that honda install a compressor bomb on them.
But yea its easy. the hardest part is the interior crap. you hae to rip the dash out to completly remove everything.
