Default can a cat go bad?

I've used a carsound cat for awhile, approx 2 years. When time comes, I'm thinking about just swapping my oem cat and stock muffler back onto the car. Can the cat and/or the muffler go bad? is there anyway to check it?

Average lifespan of a cat is 15 years, right?

A catalyc convertor shouldn't go bad when stored properly. At least not worse than under the car.

A Cel should come on a bad cat.

Not sure if it's this way with the acuras, but my miata's cat is under warranty for 8years/80,000 miles.

I think it's an EPA thing, but I'm not too sure.
