No, this is NOT another "How do I hook up my catchcan?" post......

A nice shot of my Craftsman compressor.

You know the hole is big when the ENTIRE rod comes out on to the track. The rod cap is somewhere in Bakersfield.

And to keep it drag racing related, here is how the 2004 race season went for me. One IDRC win, one NHRA Wally, four motors.

holy ****!! all the way through.. i didn't really look close at the first picture, because i was thinking maybe you hooked the breather lines to the rear of the valve cover, so in the second picture i thought there was something craftsman inside the block
had to look again, sorry to see all the damage, the cost of racing i guess.. it would be so cool to have a wally! you should take a picture of it with all the blocks

There has to be a reason you are breaking motors like that.
Case in Point: One of the cars I tuned...over 600whp, H22a.
Probably ran 20, 10second passes all season on the same trans and same motor.
Eagle Small Bolts...Why are you obliterating Blocks like that? I'll go off on a limb and say the tuning was good, since you work at AEM. What are you reving to?
Oil Pump Failure? There has to be a reason you Window'd 4 blocks in a season.

Wow, thanks everybody for the advice/encouragement/concern/support. I think I've got it pretty well figured out. It's not as bad as it sounds initially. It wasn't four new, complete, built motors. But blowing four motors still really sucks.
H22 #1- Stock longlock. 15 psi, 400 hp, 8000 rpm. Just pushed it too hard. Broke one rod bolt, bent another rod like a horse shoe. It's actually pretty funny looking.
H22 #2- Built block, broke an AEM Hyper-Rod.
H22 #3- Used shortblock I bought off of Stephan Papadakis. It had about a season's worth of low 8 second runs on it. It was pulled for some reason, but he couldn't remember why. But I dropped it in because I wanted to race IDRC. Broke a Crower rod. I'm not really sure why, but the motor was pretty well used.
H22 #4- Broke another AEM Hyper-Rod
The AEM rods were manufactured by Saenz to AEM specs back in the mid-90's. I traded something for a set my co-worker had laying around. After I popped the first built motor, I just called up Saenz and had them make me two replacements.
Back when these rods were sold, Hondas that made 450hp were the cream of the crop. I found out after the fact that the rods were spec'd for 150 hp per hole. It was just a complete oversight on my part. When I put the first motor together, I never imagined I'd be making around 650 hp. Forged internals are forged internals, right? Except when you're doing stuff like I was, you're probably exceeding the intended limits of many off-the-shelf performance parts.
I'm still really pleased with my progress in my first season of racing in competition. I would have never expected to make as much progress as I did in one year. And to win a couple events (especially that Wally!), was just icing on the cake. The year started off really well, but I ended up chasing parts breakage and scrambling to make it to events for the second half. The motor came out 6 times and the tranny came out 5 times on top of that last year. I was racing a lot and driving it on the street as well. I'm going to take it easy this year. This hobby is expensive! I'm having a lot of fun though, so to me it's worth it.
