This is my 2nd semester living in the dorms. Since I moved out here I only get to drive the R only like once or twice a month and I still pay for the insurance. I drive a jeep Cherokee to school which is ok but gas millage sucks ***. I was contemplating on bringing the Type R out here, but I'm too scared of getting it stolen or messed with. But then I think to my self it's only a car and what's it made for, to drive around not to just sit around and wait for me to get home once or twice a month. Let me hear your opinions.
if you like the R then keep it safe until after school is finished.
But if you need the money to get thru school then sell it and then pick another one up when your done with edumacation.

Depending on where you are going to school (you may not want to disclose that information here) I would say find a nice car cover and a good end spot.

keep it at home, keep the insurance... you don't want your house buring down, i dunno fi that covers it. have your parents as one of the main drivers for weekend leisure or something, it'll be cheaper...

The parking lot that I would park it in is Pretty safe (Knocking on wood). I've seen another type r there before, but he or she commutes to school, where as I would be staying here. But how bad can rates go up due to vandalism?

I'd have to say that it just depends on where you go to school. I've had my car here for almost a year and I've never had any problems, even parking it in the dorm parking lot, granted it's no R. I feel like the fact that most of the rest of the kids drive benz's and bimmers have to do with that. They know how to take care of their cars (= no door dings for me). Plus, the bike theft rate on campus is much higher than that of car theft. There's also a girl here with an R and she doesn't seem to have any problems.
Leave it at home if you want to concentrate on your studies. Having the car there will be a distraction for you and you're constantly going to worry about it. Not worth it IMO. Education > Cars
If you can, wait until next year or whenever you plan on moving to an apartment, to bring your car up. Just make sure you get a garage.

Do what I did, which was leave the R at home and drive a different car. I would rather pay more money for gas for a jeep than risk hurting the R. No matter how safe you think your college campus is, you are always going to be taking a risk with a R parked outside. Type Rs are meant for garages, and quite frankly if you can't keep her in a garage, then don't even try bringing her to school. You'll be asking for trouble and it will get you distracted. Around three weeks ago, someone tried to rip off my front bumper and after that, I decided to leave the R at home until I find a house with a garage for her which would be the following school year. You are paying good money for an education and you shouldn't let a R distract you from you studies. Furthermore, I would hate to see you creating a new thread telling us about how your R was stolen or vandalized. Keep her at home and drive the jeep.

We have been asked this countless times...IMO you would be foolish to take the caR to school. I understand your desire to drive it more often, especially while paying the insurance....i am in the same boat. Understand though, if you take your car to school you will have put up with retards whom have no concept of opening and closing doors, not to mention the theft rate which i dont need to explain to you
. Its your call...but i think you know the wiser of two decisions!

Do whatever you want.
Sounds like you will anyway.
Just know that you've been warned.

if you don't need it don't bring it. If you miss it now, imagine how much you'll miss it if it gets stolen. If it's safe where you've left it at home perhaps you could pay storage insurance (dunno how that works really, it doesn't snow here).
How far is it from your parents house to your dorm??
This may sound off the wall but if you truly miss it that much you could always rent a storage building that's close to your dorm. That way you can drive it after school and on the weekends without having to travel the long distance to your parents house. Plus it will be locked up in a secure location.
