Default 2001 Prelude SH Clutch Problem

I have a stock 2001 Prelude SH with 48k miles on it. The car has pretty much been babied, no hard driving. When the car is cold, it will chatter or shutter when releasing the clutch, almost like the clutch plate is warped. As soon as the car comes up to temperature, it's fine. Also I want to point out that it only seems to occur when the car sits for a while, like overnight. If I go out somewhere and the car sits and cools off, it doesn't occur. If it sits more then a few hours, then it will occur. Any ideas??

I'm having a similar problem. My 2000 SH is making a small metal rubbing/chirp sound. It only happens in first gear when I'm letting the clutch out slowly in traffic. It is there for only a split second then goes away in every other gear. Do I have a problem with my clutch?

That's a good question. I know that before I had to get my slave and master cylinders replaced due to a nasty leak it sprung, it was making the same kind of noise, but there was also sponginess in the travel that I noted. Are you having any problems like that?

I am a far cry from any kind of expert, but that sounds like maybe a throw out bearing. My problem isn't sounds releated. I car kind of shimmy's when I take off, like the clutch plate is warped. No noises out of the ordinary. Once the car comes up to temperature, everything works fine. I'm almost thinking about putting an aftermarket clutch in it.

Thanks Smoke, i will keep that in mind. I can't use IM yet becuase of my trial status.

Still looking for some suggestions, or is putting a new clutch in the car the easiest way to get past this.

I had the squeek/chirp sound a while back as well, and I think it was my throw out bearing. It went away when I got a new clutch. I also experiance chatter tight now, even when its cold it usually is not as noticable when I use more gas and release the clutch quicker. Now, just the other day I nothiced a drop in clutch pedal pressure. Its really rought to change gears, and also the clutch starts to grab alot sooner than just 4 days ago. It grabs almost right after I lift the pedal. Also, when releasing the pedal, when its 3/4 of the way up it almost doeasn want to come up at all, like theres no pressure against my foot. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

yah I had the same problem with my car. So i bled the line and it helped out a little bit. I was able to put it into gear a little easier but I ended up getting a new master cylinder and now I have no problem switching gears. but for some odd reason my car has that same chattering noise that everyone is talkin about when i put my car in reverse and in 1st gear. could it be anything else besides the throw out bearing? should I just get a new clutch? If so, anyone have any recommendations on any brand for a stage 1? thanks.

Yeah I have exactly the same problem as you do. Just took my car to a Honda service center to check it out. They claim that it's clutch wear, but I only have 40k miles on my car. Also, the squeeling sound (metal - metal rubbing) doesn't occur when I put it in reverse.

I don't ride my clutch much at all, and I always toe-heel rev-match. I'm finding it hard to believe my clutch wore out so fast. Well, I gotta admit to a "spirited" driving style though.

Have you solved your problem? Would like to know what it was that you did before I bite the bullet and replace the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel.
