Engine Guru's do you have any ideas?
Hey!
Some of you may know that I roadrace my R in the SCCA Touring 2 (T2) class which besides safety upgrades allows very limited upgrades and is essentially a showroom stock class.
I am running National races this coming season and am hoping for an invitation to the Valvoline Runoffs at Mid-Ohio in Sept. which is the SCCA National Championship. However I am also planning to run a 6 race series here in Vancouver (BC Canada) that allows quite a few more mods and if I run my car in T2 configuration I will be at a disadvantage to other cars in my class. This is where I am looking for suggestions. I am thinking of building up another head for the local series and running it with my STOCK bottom end (SCCA Rules) and swapping it back and forth to run each series. The way my race dates are right now it would only have to be changed 3 times over the season (April to October) and there is weeks between the changes.
What would be a good combo to use for a roadrace head with a stock bottom end (I mean STOCK!!) Can you suggest :Cams, Cam Gears, Valve Train, Port & Polish level, Shaving? I am open to suggestions and ideas.
Thanks!

portflow port&polish
stock valves
portflow inner springs
itr intake outer springs on both in&ex
toda spec A or B cams
slight mill depending on the cam choice

What stage of port and polish? Saying I choose Toda B, what amount of milling would you suggest or would a Mugen or Spoon 2 layer be OK instead, or both? Stock retainers? Toda cam gears?

I would think Steve would suggest the Portflow Titanium retainers for less valvetrain weight.
Milling or the Gasket, how high do you want compression? I know with Stock USDM ITR pistons in a B18C5 with ITR head you can run TODA Spec Cs and the Spoon 2 layer gasket. I even did it with the JDM ITR pistons.
I personally use TODA gears with my Spec Cs, but I know a lot of people like the Skunk2 gears. As for cost effectiveness, the Skunk2s would win out...
Steve, what are you running for gears?

MD,
The series is new this year and as of right now is called the "2002 Westcoast Sportscar Championship" . The races/regulations are combination of some new rules and some enduro series rules that is no longer running. The classes are P3 which is up to 1750 cc , P2 which is 1751 up to 2500cc, and P1 which is 2501 and up . You can use forced induction but you would multiply your displacement by 1.4 to find your class. You can engine swap etc. as long as is same make to same make. The races are 1 hour long and you have to do a mandatory pit stop. You can have a co-driver. The series is going to be put on by our club the "Sportscar Club of British Columbia" and is sanctioned by the CACC which is our Division of ASN/FIA Canada. 5 of the races will be at Mission Raceway and 1 will be one of the support race at the Molson Indy Vancouver.
