Default GSR vs LS

aight guys, tell me what u think. two of my friends both are on this forum. They raced yesterday. A GSR vs a LS, 3 ppl in both cars, except there was about 150 lb more body weight in the GSR, the GSR also had his laundry and some books in the trunk, cuz he was goin home from college, and he had a full tank of gas.

The ls had about 2-3 gallons of gas and the car was empty.

We drag raced down an open country back road, that many people race at.
I sat shotgun in the GSR.

They both launched great, not much traction problems, well, pretty much right after 1st gear was over, the LS pulled on the GSR, and by the end of the 1320 the ls was 1 car length ahead of the GSR.

FYI- 2001 GSR 6000 miles
- 1994 LS a lil over 100000 miles.

i have driven both of their cars, i know for a fact the GSR feels way faster than the LS and i have raced in both of the cars before. for some reason that night, the GSR felt slower than last time i raced in it.

Jerry drives the GSR and he lots to an auto GSX 10 min before he raced Eugene the driver of the LS.

Jerry had a bad day, and he was really pissed off all day, not just cuz of races, hehe.

Eugene did real good, im proud of him, he just got his car about a month and a half ago, jerry has been driving stick for about 3 years.

So jerry (GSR) is also the better driver

Do you guys think it was all the weight that made the difference?!?!
Tell me what you guys think.
Vic

The hell? LS beat the GS-R? Was the GS-R shifting under 5k rpm?! How the hell. I know the weight difference, but it wasn't off by that much!

I raced many LS before, and it wasn't even close, unless they were heavily modified...

Tell him to check his car out...

I think that LS was sprayin

actually, he didn't, we are both stock. I shifted around 7800-8000 and the LS just got a huge jump on me in 1st gear! I dunno how that happened b/c when I saw the LS shift to 2nd and I was still in 1st trying to gain some ground...but I just couldn't

I launched it pretty good, I got a lil bit of wheel spin and had traction right away...i think

do you guys seriously think weight has something to do with it? I mean I did have a FULL tank of gas, whereas the LS only had about 2 -3 gallons tops, and I(around 165lbs) did have two 180lbs guys in my car, plus some chit in the back that weighs at least 30lbs. The LS's driver is about 120lbs and the two passengers prolly avg about 115-125lbs.
So people wise, we have a 165lbs difference.

Lets say a gallon of gas weighs 2lbs, 2x10=20lbs
165(ppl)+30(chit)+20(gas)=215lbs

so the GSR is about 215lbs heavier than the LS...do you think its the weight that made me lose or is my car fawked up?

try launching at higher revs. i would get my best launches in my GSR when id take off just around 4500. Don't let the revs drop as you start to take off. keep practicing..

yeah... i would have bet my car on Eugene. That's a BIG weight difference.

I can hang with most GSR's to about 80 or 90 with 3/4 of a tank of gas or so. I don't really consider myself that modded yet. In the 1/8 mile I've run a 10 flat. I know some GSRs that haven't run that... but not every engine is created equal remember.

having 3 ppl in the car is a huge weight factor. I can feel big time lag when i have 2 passengers.

On paper, the GSR isn't THAT much faster than an LS. But still, weight is a big factor in any race.

You can dis a LS, but what if they have the same tranny in each? I mean the gsr tranny is geared shorter; quicker. I really think this is because Acura had to make the GSR "feel" faster. 30 extra hp is nothing. It is like racing a mustang with 4:11's vs 3:73 in the rear end. Of course the 4:11 is gonna be fatser.

I have a ls, my friend a gsr. same years, etc. The only difference I feel is in the transmission when I drive the two.

This is why I paid 4,000 less for my car than a gsr.

is it a LS or RS?.........the RS doesnt have AC, ABS and sunroof.......all those things add up to more weight........

i dont know why everyone seems so suprised when a LS/RS beats a GS-R.......

actually, 1 gallon of gas weights approximately 11.8 lbs
No it's really closer to 6. Water is around 8.3. Think about how heavy a gallon of milk is (Yeah, I know you don't put milk in the gas tank ) http://www.santacruzpl.org/readyref/...gasoline.shtml
and if you scroll down to "weight of common products," this one says 6.1 http://www.weights.az.gov/Consumer/M...onversion.html

Ls's have more low end tq where as the GSR is a high hp car. Maybe because both were loaded with weight the car with a better low end TQ curve would win? I don't know i'm just guessing

hehe cause its imposible for a car with vtec to loose. seriously though, the numbers are pretty close stock vs stock (7 sec 0-60 vs 7.5). i dont think this is really worth analyzing. just go race each other with no passengers like 30 times that way youll know for sure.

LS's can actually hang with GSR's through first and part of second. That, combined with the fact you had ~200 lbs extra weight probably is the reason why you lost. If you're pissed about it, try racing both cars again, but take out all that extra weight. You should be able to beat the LS then.

If you can drive a Gsr correctly, you are able to rape Ls's.

exactly. i dont kno where people are gettin the idea that they are beating gsr's in a stock ls, but untrue. if u can drive, u can destroy LS's lb for lb. and if you say you have an LS and have driven a gsr, and feel no difference then obviously somethings wrong w/ u. i have taken modded LS's in my 01 gsr. (before turbo) . im not tryin to diss LS's , its a great car, but saying the gsr and the ls is the same, or that the ls is faster than a gsr is nonsense.

I own both and can tell you a gooddriver in an ls vs an average racer in a gsr will lose because at the end of second the gsr has about 10 mph more before he has to shift and third the gsr has it

True about the speed ranges in 2nd and 3rd. But what matters is who wins. At the end of a nascar race do they analyize the winning drives gastank to see how much was in it? No. yes a GSR is faster. But if you own a GSR and cannot drive it, then it is pointless to say how fast it is. (I am not pointing fingers, just in general) I've seen 1200cc Harley's beat 600cc sportbikes. Why? The punk can't shift it or launch it his bike. If he is so worried about why he lost, why did he race knowing all the time he was heavier? Why didn't he pull in his side view mirrors for less drag? (got me +3mph top speed on my zx-9r) Why did they race with a carload of people??

And yes, I cannot tell a difference between a ls or gsr BESIDES the tranny. (have driven both, and I think pulling a wheelie into 4th gear on my bike (shifting properly) proves this) Like I said, what happens when each car has the same tranny in it?
