Default Real World Info!!

Sorry for another tire thread, but search and found very limited info.

History: Have a 94 Civic DX coupe i run in STX here locally. Have run on the car Rota Slip's 16x7, 40mm offset, 13.7lbs with Azenis 215/45/16 for the last 2 years. 7 events in 2003, 7 in 2004, looks like maybe 5 events this year with track locations and time off. Run the azenis from the first race of the season till the last race, aka summer tires. Then run winter rubber off season. Daily driver ride. Car setup at bottom of post. Tires still have lots of tread left for at-least another season.

Just bought a new set of rota gt3's 15x7 40mm offset, 12lbs wheels. This is the list of rubber that has caught my eye.

Toyo TS-1's: 215/45/15, 17.6lbs, local shop $139 each- total $601 mount/balance
Kumho MX's: 205/50/15, 20lbs, Discount $125 each- total $525 m/b- Tirerack $83 each, $40 shipping- total $373, m/b $40- total $420 or so.
Azenis 615's: 205/50/15, xxlbs, Vulcan Tire $92 each- total $450 m/b or so.

I know my math is off but if i was to get the TS-1's, I'll spent around $100 more. The only reason it's listed is because it has a reinforce sidewall compared to the regular TS-1. Never seen anyone run the MX or TS-1 here local so i have nothing to compare with the azenis and no shop carries these tire so size comparison cannot be done. Not looking for a tire that's as aggressive as the 215's but is still competitive. Anyone who runs these on a daily driver and autox's with REAL world experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Todd

P.S. I know there a new Tire and Wheel forum but looking for people who use them on the track.

The mx's will get faster as they wear and have better street use characteristics than the azenis. Get them from tire rack. I think your price is off for discount tire though. They shouldn't be that much.

I haven't heard anything good about the T1S(not TS1) so I wouldn't even consider those

I laughed at the kid at Discount when he gave me the quote. He said he could not get ANYWHERE close to the Tirerack price.

I personally don't like them because they ride terrible with the ultra stiff sidewall. I use es100's on the street and love them in every way.

I think the 235/40/17 ES100's on the BMW ride worse than the 205/50/15 Azenis on my integra

Couple factors that have steered me not to look at the 215's, but i agree, best bang for the buck.

1. With the rain, drivers, and roads here in NM, there has been a few time that the tires have gotten my attention to the fact that i can taste fabric, aka the rear-end suck zone. I don't drive like an ***, but the water drainage system here is none existent.

2. The hot weather days and the limited attendance at events allows smaller cool down times for the tires. Even with a spray, there greasy as heck.

No other real complaints about the 215's. I'm to skeptical about the new 615's due to no-one having dealt with them yet.

FOr what you are looking at and the conditions you stated you run in, I would agree with Ryan. The MX's are probably your best bet.

Well I LOVE Azenis. I LOVED daily driving them too. I suppose I'm a little off. I am also one of those ******** that never understood how people had problems in the rain with them. I drive sane on the streets and never had problems.

So why not do this then. Instead of spending $600 on 15" tires. Find some stupid cheap 400+ treadwear 16" tires and put those on your 16" wheels and daily drive them. Then go buy some 205/50/15 Azenis. Problem solved.

I didn't have interior in my car anyways, so all tires were noisy to me. I'm to much of a sissy to buy MX's too. Those and MAYBE G-Force KA's are the only other two I MIGHT try.

The 16" are going on a new scionXB when the wife graduates school in April. I guess some new Azenis will work due to the XB turning into the daily driver. Might just get MX's to give them a try since I've already run the Azenis.

Thanks GUY!!
