Default Is it really worth me getting a new intake manifold or should I just swap ECU's?

I currently have a JDM B18C it has the 10.6:1 comp ratio but has the GSR top end and intake manifold. Currently Im running my engine with a chipped P28 that was running a B18C5. I know that Im looseing some power supposedly with my IAB's not being hooked up and them staying open all the time. Is it really worth it for me to get a Blox/Skunk2 intake mani or should I just swap back to the P72 ecu and hook up my IAB's? I dont have any huge power goals for this engine just something that runs really good. I have someone that would trade a OBD1 P72 for my chipped P28. What should I do?

Id say go for the manifold , would be much better than swapping ecu's...... ur probably gonna lose power by switching back....... if it were me i' get a skunk2

so both of you think getting a new intake manifold would be better than switching back to the P72 ecu.

the BBk might be to much for a stock motor , i'd get the skunk2 its best suited for all-motor and lower hp turbo apps

I have read mixed reviews on adding a Skunk2 mani to a stock cam stock everything GSR head. If I remember correctly alot of people say that they gain alot up top and that it would be best if you raised the rev limit and would be even better if cams were added to the mix but they sometimes tend to lose some low and mid range power without some sort of tuning with a VAFC or whatever else.

i would get a p73 and a skunk2 intake manifold just my opinion i know it is more money then you want to spend probably but it is something to think about it will give you more fuel and you might even think about getting a vafc or something like that

You may lose a little low end power but u will more than gain up for it top end , and if ur racing where does the motor spend most of its time at ? At higher rpms......so i don't think u would be disapointed , the skunk is pretty much a copy of the type r mani anyway, so i's say do for it , just get the mani..... look on skunk2's web site they may hae a dyno sheet on swaping the mani's

If your just using it as a fun daily driver and you dont want to spend any money, then I say just swap ECUs and hook up your IABs. If there is no future of building this motor then there is no point in getting the blox/skunk2 mani. Thats just my opinion though.....people will tell you otherwise.

As of right now Im not really planning on building my engine. Maybe in the future Im not really sure what I want to do to be honest with you. I need some more opinions still on this

u don't have to build the motor to run a skunk mani........ i was serching around anf found that they gained 14hp on a stock gsr just by swaping mani's.......... i dunno about u but if i can gain that kinda power for just over 200 instead of losing power by switching ecu's , its not hard to figure out what i'd chose

From just a intake manifold swap it gained 14whp? I dont know about that myself I havent heard anything like that. The most that I heard about untuned was 8whp.

I just put on a blox IM. The loss down low did't really bother me. After about a week i did't even notice it. I did feel some more mid-to-upper power gains, but thats from the good old butt dyno. Over all i think it was a good choice. Its recomened to upgrade your cams to at least ITR/CTR, but not needed if you dont have the money. I'm going with itr cams untill i this summer, then im going with a bigger cam.

I can say this from my experience with my IABs...I was running a JDM P30 Auto and I always thought that it was a P72 auto (no sticker on the side)until I got my USDM P72...After switching out the ECU...I noticed a difference low-end and mid range...The top seems to have suffered a little...I kind of miss not having the IABs hooked up because when VTEC would kick in on the P30, it was raw....Im thinking of swapping out my ECU again for a P30 5spd...

If anyone is unsure of their ECU, just check in between where the harness connects too...there is another sticker in there...

so your car felt like it had more power without the IAB's working with the P30 ecu? Mine arent working right now because of running the P28. I havent driven a car with a B18C in it for along time before I got my engine in my hatch so I dont know or remember actually what it felt like to have the IAB's working.

I would just go ahead and get the either a skunk2 or blow manifold sinces you already have the chip p28, you will gain on top but loss a little on the bottom..... after the man install add a set on ctr/itr cam and then you can call it a day..... you would have a pretty much stock car with some power....

I noticed the IABs as soon as I swapped out the ECU...The USDM 5spd makes my car smooth and refined, not as loud as the P30 Auto...But something about the VTEC crossover is different for sure...The P30 would hit at 5k...BAM all loud in your face...My P72 now around 4500 rpm the revs start climbing and at around 5.5k is when the VTEC kicks but with the IABs the crossover is much more milder than the P30...Like I said, it was a trade off...the IABs help down low and mid range for sure...According to the butt dyno...But that P30 VTEC was just nasty...

I was just looking at one of my old Super Street magazines (only have like 5) But this one was with the Spanky feature (awsome green hatch from back in the day in the FF Squad). For those that may not know it had a B18C and he had a GSR manifold on that engine. I have a video of that car racing another hatch and it was rather fast? Im not sure if he still had the same engine setup but if he did it was pretty quick. Just thought I would put that out in the open

why not get the ecu and save the money to port your throttle body and port your head and port match everything? it doesnt seem like the manifold would do too much without some other upgrades included.
