Default NHRA - Quick 16

If it is 11.99 or quicker to qualify in the 16 car field is there any penalty/DQ if you happen to run slower than 11.99 during eliminations?

For example, let's say you just barely qualify into the 16 car field with a mid/low 11.9x... now are you in the show no matter what until you get bumped or can you get DQ'd if you happen to run a low 12.x for whatever reason? It might sound like a dumb question but since that class is new and the set up is totally different it can't hurt to ask.

Also, anyone out there planning on going for this class?

My impression is that as long as you qualify, you will be no matter what. Running a 12+ will just make you lose most of the time. Use this as an example; one car breaks at the line, the other misses 4th gear and limps across the line......would you DQ both and leave a bye next round? I sure wouldn't, but this class has went through so many changes, who knows what it will end up like. I was really excited about the format for E-town last year, and was really disappointed on how it actually ended up. Hopefully the changes will make it what it is intended to be like and it will be very fun. It should be interesting no matter what though.

Brittany will be running in the class at 4-5 events it seems like based on our schedule as of now.

Good point, I guess I was over analizing and didn't pay attention to the obvious, most likely because the class rules/regs are so different. Well, I am just kicking it all around because it is so damn hard to find a class for these damn all motor VR6's.

It is a bummer that our full blown race cars aren't even as fast as other make/models ProAm street cars... then our street class cars, same deal. I keep trying though. I know what I choose to race realy isn't the best for getting power and being light, I am just trying to find a class other than brackets to be competitive in to try and have some fun.

My sources tell me that it takes 11.99 or quicker to qualify. Once qualified, running 12.0 or slower in eliminations will not get you dq'd.

Oh tell me about it brother, It pissed me off that i lost to an 18sec car that should've been running brackets instead of the quick16 class. I spoke to Javier about it afterwards for alittle bit and he agreed with me and i guess he spoke to higher NHRA officials about it also thats probably what lead to the rule change about 11.99 or quicker to be eligable to qualify for the class. I'm not to sure though that if u qualify in the 11's and then afterwards in competition u run a 12.xx I'm not sure what they will do but i know it can only work against u running a slower time because the object of this class is to be consistant and run no faster then .5 tenths of a second then what u qualify at. I wont be running the Quick16 though anymore I'll be in the SFWD from now on at NHRA events </TD></TR></TABLE>

So lets think about this.....you open a class with no real restrictions regarding setup, qualify and handicap them based on the times they run.......hmmm......sounds like a bracket class to me. It is obviously not what your car is built for if you lost to a slower, most likey unmodified car. I assume that you have some sort of fairly advanced engine management, meaning full control of most aspects of the operation of your car. I also assume you have some sort of suspension that you can set, and slicks are usually consistent; I doubt the 18 second car had that either. So basically you are telling me that some car that is made for cruising down the road with ancient technology under the hood, and certainly tires and suspension that is not meant for drag racing, should beat you? Sounds like you need to go back to the drawing board, or racing 101; consistency wins races.

Now, the intentions of the class may have been different, and it seems so due to the new rules, but at that time, Quick 16 was certainly a glorified bracket race with alot of huge holes and a lack of knowledge from all staff and participants. I was certainly disappointed, but I am optimistic that the class will eventually shape up to be an awesome arena for the guy who cant quite make it to their desired class.

Roger, I am still going to go for that class even though I am still a little concerned about making the 2650lbs weight on race day. The last my time car was set up full interior, full exhaust and on street wheels it was 2618lbs w/ driver. I have since made the car lighter as well as ditched the stock wheels for lighter street wheels.

It is a "we'll see" type of thing because track scales are different from track to track, I will be up at Etown for Survival Series on 3/20 as well as 4/10, one of those days I plan on taking the time to weigh the car in full street trim to see how much ballast I have to throw on the car.

As for the Quick 16, I am asking around because there is a car floating around that just needs a fresh bottom end and it would be a solid contender running mid 11's. Also, I am just trying to see what is out there as I go thru the motions with this car, you know keep it street, full race, etc., etc.

Always good to have spare cars at the races.. cause there are always willing, experienced drivers to pilot em.

you can always add weight, as specified in the nhra rules!

Only thing that comes to my mind right is what the hell are you thinking??? I think maybe the way I might have wrote my paragraph u might not have understood what i was trying to get at What u seem to forget is the Quick16 is a heads up Bracket style class in the NHRA, Its not a bracket class but it is bracket stlye. Only reason i ran that class was because i wasn't able to run SFWD because my car has something on it SFWD doesn't allow which is a fuel cell.

Also yes i do think 18 sec cars have no business being able to run with a 10 sec car. The NHRA did its job this time by making that rule 11.99 or faster to qualify. Also FYI I'm very consistant in my car but that guy just seemed to have a better light then me I'm gonna look to see if i find my slips from that weekend cause as I remember he cut almost a perfect light.</TD></TR></TABLE> I thought Dart blocks were illegal? unless you changed the block how will you be competing in sfwd?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Bean-Burrito &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Also I think that this class would be very competitive if alot of those OldSchool Datsun, Mazda, and Toyota guys would enter their cars since most of them are running brackets why not run a class with no barriers and its the same style tree-light they're already useto and be able to run with cars with similar setups and E.T.'s in my eyes i think that would be interesting and it would wake up the NHRA sport compact scene even more then it is since alot of those guys really didnt like to run the NHRA events since their cars were not eligable for classes. </TD></TR></TABLE>

similar setups mean, similar setups, E.T's are close to the same but trying to compare FWD to RWD, makes no similarity to me. Plus pretty much this class, just like SFWD, will go to far. Sooner or later, a class with no barriers, like you say such as Quick 16 will become another Hotrod class with a mix of FWD and RWD, especially with time already being 11.99 or quicker. Just my thoughts

that sounds like someone we used to know. lol the dart block is illegal in the PRO classes. it can be used in the sportsman and bracket classes. check the rule book.

Benzo calm down, the reason i was asking was because i was unsure, that is why i asked the question. Nobody is claiming that they know it all, i was just asking because the PREVIOUS OWNER, the one who built the car, used a dart block....

Thanks Roger you didnt have to though, I wasnt even going to post anything up because I dont waste time with Know-It-All's since they know everything let them find out on their own lol.

Well thats your opinion but i cant say i agree with it at all, since its nowhere near becoming like a HotRod class and who's says you cant compare a FWD car to a RWD car, this is exactly what this class was meant for things like that un-evenly paired cars lined up against each other just trying to remain consistant without going faster then .5 tenths of a second faster then what they qualify at. If you dont understand or know the rules of a class which you apparently dont please ask questions and eventually someone will answer you this is a technical board its meant for questions and answers before you give your opinion on something next time make sure you know what your talking about.

Once again I'll repeat myself before you make a comment that your unclear about please make sure you know what your talking about , also what does my business have to do with you anyway did you put money in my pocket to do anything to the car
</TD></TR></TABLE>

ok, settle down this is a technical forum, not a bashing forum, i was unsure of the rules. The class i thought was heads up, whic it may be but your still competing against your own time. Sounds to me like a fast bracket class. Next time ill be sure to ask someone of your stature and knowledge Questions first before i post.

you guys this class is just like comp eliminator in NHRA .basically this class comes down to who has the best reaction time. the timed runs is to establish an index to see what handicap is gonna be given to the other opponent. if the other guys cuts a better light than you then you are screwed. in this class. its who gets to the finish line first in the class. where bracket. you had to get there first and run within your index.
just read the rules for competition eliminator and it will give you a better idea of what this class is about. its really a fun class. we've raced it alot on the domestic side and raced it as well with an import.

Go for it.

I was thinking we could just get a fresh block in Dowd's car BUT the major task at hand is the chassis issues with that car. It all just needs to be gone over.

Billy/Paul-

You are more then welcome to use the GTi for that class if you want. You know what it needs. She is sitting in my yard, ready to go. A fresh, 2.9L bottom end would do wonders for that set up. If Joe still has that other shell laying around you know what you need to do to the suspension.

That thing needs new Lexan anyway so you might as well start fresh.

BTW, Hello From Kuwait! Hope you all are enjoying the snow.

I will be home somtime in July for R and R! Maybe Waterfest. Would love to run my car there.

Hey buddy! Yes, we have been kicking around busting your car out this summer but as mentined we need to work on her pretty good. If you think you will be home for Waterfest let us know as soon as you can and we will get the car ready for you to just show up, get in and beat the hell out of it. Not sure if time will allow to swap to the new chassis but at least getting a fresh bottom end back in the car shouldn't be a problem.

Shoot me an e-mail when you get time and let me know how things are over there...
