Default timming problem

I can't get timming right car acts like it is almost 180 degrees out but I can't turn distributor around and put it back on it's like it only goes on one way. Any ideas. I think the cam timming may be off alittle. Also does anyone know if head studs are reusable. Sorry if spelling or grammer is bad running on two hours of sleep.

head studs are NOT reusable

cam timing out?? did you do a timing belt or ?? what were you doing. get the cam timing right 1st

the ignition timing can easily be 180 degrees out if you came to TDC of #1 when it's NOT on the compression stroke. To know the compression stroke, make sure the valves are all closed for #1 cyl. Correct firing order is 1-3-4-2 so, get everything to TDC of #1 cyl compression stroke, then throw the distributor in with the rotor pointing at the #1 tower on the distributor cap. it's really that easy. I just assume you're tired and got a lil confused... right? take your time and think it through.

well since he said it acts like 180 degrees out, I can only assume the car doesn't start at all... I mean, 180 degrees out it won't run

well that sucks guess I need new head studs, why are they not reusable. I think my cam timming is out. I was changing the head. And I think I need to go back and check the cam timming. I have been told it needs to be perfect. Thanks guys.

well head bolts (studs are made to be reused) are reuseable but not recommended. The most i ever have used set of head bolts before was 3 times and never had a problem. The stress on the bolts along with the heat makes the bolts stretch, which they can only stretch so much before they break. Therefore thats why they dont recommend using head bolts over.
