info on excessive oil usage RSX Type S
i'm just wondering if anyone out there has noticed usage of oil. I'm a Tech at an Acura dealer in PA. We keep getting customers stating that there car is using oil. What we have found is that the RSX Type S uses one quart of oil for every 1000 miles, when it isnt due for an oil change in 10,000 miles. Honda Motor Co isnt sure if all of the RSX Type S's consume oil, they are in the process of tryin to get to bottom of this problem. I'm just here to tell you guys and gals so maybe you can prevent the possibility of running out of oil!!! And also if you guys are getting an enging warning light, it is most likely the first oxygen sensor, we found that it is slow reacting, so it isnt anything major to worry about, it can be fixed easily. Currently these are the only problems with this car, with exception to the bose stereo system losing it's bass. Great purchase, should of bought an integra!!!!!!!
I had a '93 prelude vtec that I bought new and had the same problem. It used oil and I found that it mainly did it when the extra horses kicked in. My exhaust tip always stayed black. I loved the car and just bought a RSX-S because of the similarities. I found that you have to change the oil every 3000 no matter what. My RSX has shown signs already (the tip has got thick black oil on it). Keep your oil changed no matter what they say.

I am not sure about synthetics but I am checking into that with a few people
Although I think they would work if they live up to the hype (Castrol). I went about 5500 miles with my prelude once and it was almost dry so I had the car checked out by the dealership and they said everything was o.k. and never experienced any performance problems.

I have noticed that there is a blue grey smoke from the exhaust when the vtec kicks in!!!!! Does anyone know why? Please help.

Hey, i'm planning on buying an RSX in a month or so. Are you having problems with the base RSX? or is this just a Type S issue. Also, i plan on buying the SportShift version, is that a reliable transmission? Thanks!
my '00 Si did it to and I noticed that I have to clean my tip every week on my type-S to...I haven't noticed any loss in oil though (not noticable yet) but I only have 2200 mi on it...so we'll see

Thatdude my CE light came on recently and I took it to my local dealership and put it on the computer. Slow response came up so my tech looked around and found that my 1 o2 sensor was reading negative. What do you reccommend I do because it went away now but should eventually come back up. Would replacing it make a difference, I would think not because it is the same one unless Acura modified it. If you were me what would you do. Any help would be appreciated

I just put Exxon natural 5-20 oil in my car. It takes a hell of a lot for a 4 cyl engine. I think the guy put in about 4.75 or 5 qts. Does everyone else have the same thing? (A lot of oil)
eh how can a car go 10,000 miles with out an oil change??? (you said they weren't due for a change in 10k) as far as burning oil, some new cars do that, a quart over 1k though....

I noticed my oil light flash on and off when my first oil change interval came along, but it hasn't done it since and the intervals are every 3500 miles not 10,000 that's rediculous anybody who changes their oil every 10,000 miles is just lazy. Anyways the only other problem I've had with mine is the passenger side window shattered as I was driving but the strange thing was nothing hit my window. Other than that it's a great car really fun to drive.

The Honda/Acura owner's manual recommends that you check your oil everytime you get gas. I can go for 2000 miles without losing any oil, then over a 200 mile period I will lose 1/4-1/3 of a quart...check your oil, new engines tend to eat some oil to begin with...Austin

So you're telling me me that you bought a new car, broke in the engine, and never checked the oil

That's very true. Like I said before, I just got my oil changed and they put in just under 5qts, that's a lot for a 4 cyl engine.
Damn it sounds like I'm really being defensive here...just check your oil everytime you get gas and make sure that it's at the top dot.

ZACURARSX:
the black stuff on your exhaust tip is carbon, not oil, caused by running rich. check the smoke comin out of your exhaust, if its blueish-grey then your buring oil, if its black (which is probably what it is) then youre just running rich. I've got the same situation with my 93vtec lude.
peace

I have 500 miles till my next oilchange I checked my oil yesterday and It was 3quarts low!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the hell, my car doesn't leak so it has to be burning a shitload of oil and the weird thing is it runs perfect no hesitation, no oil light no increase in engine temperature or anything I think honda is gonna buy me a new motor.
