1985 holding it's revs during shifts
hello, i have a 1985 accord, i'm not sure of the trim level but i know it's not the fuel injected model, whenever i put in the clutch the rpms stay were they were for about a second and a half, then they drop very slowly, this makes for long shifts if i want to try and keep it smooth, which on snowy days is a good idea, also it seems to get flooded whenever i try to start it, i pump the gas once to open the choke, but if i pump the gas another time like the manual says you should for cold weather starts it becomes flooded, i'm guessing that all of these are related to a problem in the carburetor, but i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. My dad has suggested putting some of the carb cleaner that goes in the fuel tank in the next time i fill up the car, and if that doesn't work we're thinking about taking it to a dealer.
thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

this is the only real problem with the car, other then this the car runs great and is in fairly good condition inside and out, also it's my parents car and it's cheap insurance, so ditching it's not an option right now.

and it's getting bad mileage right now, it's getting low twentys and it should be getting about 27. and the rev problem is most noticeable when the car has warmed up.
I tell this to just about everyone with the old carb'd Accords: Check your vacuum lines. They've got so many damn vacuum lines running everywhere... You'd be surprised the problems they can cause. Sounds like you also might be running rich... Vacuum lines could be the problem of that too, but I'd also check around the carb for any signs of leaking/sticking/worn parts.
The carb Accords have a diaphram that lets the throttle plate close slowly, I'm pretty sure the 85 has one on the drivers side of the carb low/toward the rear. You could also have the throttle plate just getting sticky after all these years too. Spray some berrymans B-12 around the primary and secondary throttle plate shafts, inside and outside the carb.
