Default What happened?(h22)

I was driving on the freeway, just cruising when the motor started to sound really bad like the timing was retarded ALOT. I pulled over and shut it off. Now it wont start, I check the plugs and 1-3 are very black. Im getting fuel, obviously air and I think it may be spark, about to check with the old screw driver trick.

Question is, can a distributor work perfect and then all of a sudden just crap out with no obvious signs? If not maybe its wiring. thanks

how do you know youre getting fuel?

yeah i guess it could crap out all of a sudden, something in the coil could just go.....but unlikely.....

update: Its NOT getting spark. I can hear the fuel pump prime when i turn the key once so it should be getting fuel. After i got it towed home I could take the key out and the lights on the cluster would stay on eg the brake light, oil light. I took out some fuses under the hood and then put them back and it doesnt do it anymore. Sounds really weird.

So do you think my dizzy is gone or that its wiring, im leaning more towards wiring, but where to start? I have a multimeter btw.

the distributor is a distributor king for the jdm h22 model, if that tells u anything.

Maybe the main relay. It's behind the dash to the left of the steering wheel...

How would I be able to tell if its the main relay?

Try a new one and see if that fixes it. Also run a search on main relay and you'll see what symptoms other people have had...some are similar to yours.

I woulda guessed a timing belt problem at first, but if you're SURE it's not getting spark at the plugs, check to see if it's getting spark going to the dizzy. If not, check for voltage going to the coil.

Its a jdm internal. I think its either the main relay or a fuse. Once i started pushing on fuses under the hood, the fuel pump started to prime again, before it wasnt. Also my autometer tach bounces all around, stays at like 10k and then jumps down and up randomly.

If you have fuel its not the main relay. As you stated above your tach bounces so Problem sloved, its your ignitor. $50 bucs new anywere online. while your at it clean the cap terminals and get new plugs "ngk".

you're right about the ignitor is bad, but where can i find an ignitor for 50 bucks at? you better try 170 bucks. find it for 50 bucks news, i bet everyone on hondatech will buy one or two just to keep for spares
