17x7 205/40/17 my rim isn't completely covered... it has like 1 cm of the rim width not covered. did i get the wrong tires? edit* what rims do you suggest?

I had this problem once with ADR wheels, I called and asked why they had a lip that stuck out from the tire possibly needing a 215-45-17 but they told me it was just the way the rims are made so good luck and let me know if you get a real answer

 

Look on tirerack.com in the tire specs. I looked at a couple different tires in 205/40-17 but they say the range of rim widths is 7" to 8".

 

I see a ton of rims with tires like that. It's what you get when you buy a cheap wheel/tire combo.
