Koni Yellows worth the extra cash? Where to get 'em?
Hey guys... so i've saved up $570, and i need to finish up my suspension so i can throw it on my teg.. I've got H&R OE Sport springs, and i'm in need of shocks. I was thinking if you're willing to spend 300 on shocks, why not go all out for just 200 more? $500 is a good investment since the shocks will probably outlast the car right? Or is KONI just hype?
Where is the most reliable place i can buy them (that can cut me a good deal)? Diablo? Import Specialists?
thanks guys

If you don;t want to throw down the extra but still want adjustability try KYB AGX's. The people I know that have them swear by them. I have the yellows and I like them very much, but if they had the AGX's at the time I was shopping for shocks I'd have bought those instead to save a few bucks.
Try http://www.shox.com I got my Koni's there for a good price. Or search on http://www.groupbuycenter.com for a deal. Good luck!

You can try and find used Koni's like I did. A friend of a friend was selling them. Picked up nuespeed springs and a set of Koni Yellow for cheap. You rarely see them being sold which should tell you something (once people get them they keep'em).
Matts right...when people get them they keep them. I have not tried the AGX's, but I have the Koni Yellow/ OE combo and I'm happy with the result. I got my konis new for 520 shipped from shox.com. They're very quick and very good.
Once you get the shocks tuned the way you want them you'll wonder why you didn't get them sooner.

i think you can still get them for 494 from diablo. im getting mine from neuspeed. they have better perch settings for height adjustability and are revalved 20mm shorter. worth it if your lowering more than an inch or so. btw ive had agx's and prolly wouldnt buy them again. the neuspeed versions are 550 with free shipping from neuspeed.com
i got my Koni's from R&D Enterprises in San Diego, Ca (www.shox.com) they were very friendly and shipped out my shocks FAST!!!... i got them in about 2 days... and they matched the lowest price that i had found from other companies.. this was 2 years ago.. i got my Koni's along w/ Eibach springs and they are great
a couple friends of mine have the KYB AGX and they also like them but they have different springs than me so its not fair to compare the two.. .. overall im satisfied with my Koni's...

i just put my koni yellows on this week. so far i like them alot! i got mine from diabloautosports.com. i thought about getting the agx but kyb says the warranty is voided if lowered more than 1 1/2" (or is it 2" i dont remember). and i have heard that sometimes the kyb wears out and koni basically garaunteed that their shock will never wear out. plus you can have koni's revalved if you ever go to a full racing setup. on the agx you have to adjust the shock near the bottom of the shock and ive heard with some aftermarket swaybars the adjustment **** gets in the way of the swaybar.
my only complaint is that for the price you pay i think that koni should supply new bumpstops and bushings (i think tokiko does this). but thats ok because i upgraded bushings and bumpstops to itr parts.

You might as well just get the best now if youre serious about performance. Dont settle or you'll just keep kicking yourself saying you should of paid the extra money. Koni yellows are
yellows are adjustable and red are not.
RED is adjustable, just not height adjustable. and reds can only be adjusted before putting them on.
they are the same exact shock except the konis can be externally adjusted and they have three different height levels.

I have tokico illuminas. Great shocks also! I'm 100% satisfied with the quality. I'm sure i'd be 100% satisfied with the koni also but i didn't have the extra 100 bucks for the koni's.
Thanks for your help guys... i'm ordering them now
Should be a good fit with my H&R OE Sports... I'll post pics once the setup is in.

Yeah, how about on springs with a higher spring rate? I purchased Ground Controls with Eibach race springs with rates of 400f/300r and would like to know if the Koni Yellow's can dampen enough for the higher rates that I got. Would going with the shorter valved Neuspeed version of the Koni Yellow help make them dampen quicker to make the ride better, or will the regular Koni Yellow's work fine for my application???
Thanks in advance,
Jon

JCushing,
Would the shorter stroke of the Neuspeeds Koni's help with the higher spring rates, or is the short stroke just for if you are going to lower your car like more than 1.5-2.0 inches. Or are they better because the sleeve coilovers that we bought (Ground Controls) have very short springs on them, so the short stroke can handle them?

the extra 20mm will give you more suspension travel so you can lower it more without bottoming out. thats why manufacturors like kyb dont warranty there shocks past 1.5" drops. they use stock lengths shocks.
