Default ACL bearings and your trust

how many of you are running ACL bearings instead of OEM honda bearings and are completely satisfied? Any horror stories?

Rebuilding costs alot of money, and these are half the price of OEM bearings. I know they are advertised alot here on HT, so I wanted to get the general consensus on these.

If they designed a bearing to work with every different size possible, you would have a HUGE amount of bearings to work with. The ACL is designed as a replacment that is the MOST COMMON. If your motor is out of spec, adjust the crank. Turn it down, and get oversize bearings. You cannot just assemble something from boxes and expect the parts to clearance perfect right out of the box, especially since whoever built those parts wasn't working with the parts you are using.

It seems easier to just use stock ****.
Turn the crank down?
No thanks.

thanks for bringing this thread to my attention. I'm gonna go read it now.

The reason I'm asking about ACL bearings is because the way I look at it... since this is a rebuild using worn parts, I figured even the right color OEM bearing isn't going to be perfect. But then again, I haven't built a motor before, so I don't know how interchangeable different colored bearings are... depending on how much wear there acutally is on the part it's going on.

We use ACL's in our 700hp motor, 500 turbo + 200 shot of nitrous.

Leslie Durts always ran ACL's when I saw them building the motor.

I agree with Rocket. The ACL's have proven themselves to me time and time again. From everyday street drivers to all out 1200 h.p. turbo motors ( all-turbo ) they have been extremely good are retaining their integrity every which way. I will also be trying the new Race series ACL's in Ed's turbo motor soon. I want to see how much better they really are

About 10,000 hard miles on my ACL's (9,200 rpm) and no problems.

Trust? Trust your engine builder and the products he likes.Although I think a consensus on H-T is prob. better than people who do this for a living.

I like to use ACL's whenever I can. They are good bearings and have proven themselves over and over again.

I dont understand why people have so many doubts about them.

with rockets + ge input id put trust into ACL bearings. but if price is the biggest concern theres a guy in the classifieds who works for acura and gets really good prices. hes selling everything around wholesale price. but my price from acura is still better , complete bearings set total comes to around $150 for me. so if you want oems either hit up the guy in the classifieds or make a friend who works for acura/honda

I sell 10 sets of ACL's every week and never had one complaint. I've made over 700 whp in our car and never had a failure.

The goofy thing about these threads is that if you ask one person who swears by oem colors because of getting the "proper clearance" as to WHAT that EXACT clearance is, they won't be able to tell you. They will mumble something about Helms...but Helms ranges from .0009" to .002". The fact that those factory clearances were designed for 140hp and not 700whp does not factor in their thoughts.

i like them both .i know that erl blocks have them in them are at least all of them that i have seen there and some of the big hp motors they have done the past month or so for some of the pro drivers all have them.and if they are good enough for the pros there good enough for my street car
