Anyone go from an ITR to a 350z?
I was wondering for those who went from an ITR to a 350z if your insurance premium went up or down. I'm thinking that it shouldn't go up since ITR's are stolen practically everyday.
i been lurking on http://www.my350z.com and reading up on these cars. and there were a few guys on there that got rid of their type R's for the 350 and they all said it was cheaper.

RWD? Looks? Solid performance? Interior? I'm not sure what you are missing. I've driven both, and while I love the R the 350z is a much better platform (its also more $$ - take it for what you will).

I drove a 350Z and came away unimpressed from a performance car standpoint. It would make a great sporty, comfortable and decently fast daily commuter, but in no way did it have the "racy" feel of the Type R.
The torque and interior was nice, but the car felt huge and heavy (for what it was).

It probably does just because of the larger motor, RWD and much larger tire/wheel combo.
I know a lot of cars that technically are faster and handle better, but still aren't as fun to drive as the ITR. And isn't that what it's really about?

Yeah they are. I hope this doesn't turn into a 350z vs. Type R discussion.
The insurance on the Type R and the 350z are about the same (No more than $650-700/ 6 mo.) at least for me they were. 23 with no points.

Insurance costs vary, depending on where you live, your driving record, your age, whether you use the car for commuting, and all sorts of factors. So what someone else pays is going to have absolutely nothing to do with what you pay.
You can find out how much insurance will cost YOU by calling your insurance company, or checking a website like http://Insweb.com or http://Insure.com. You don't have to own the car to get a quote; they can tell you how much it will cost before you decide whether or not to buy one. Try it...

every test or contest or battle the 350z has ever entered in Road and Track, motor trend, sport compact, anything, it has finished dead last
it's heavy, over priced, and probably wouldnt beat a stock R on the highway by much, if any
it's not a better platform, because it weighs well over 3000lbs and feels like a boat
my friend has one and he always says this
"god, i wish my car handled like yours"
just my .02
personally would take the RX-8 for less money over the Z, since it handles better, weighs less and and looks nicer....or an s2000

Back to the topic at hand, when I was shopping around for a new car, the 350Z was considerably cheaper to insure than an ITR in the NYC area.
HTH.

Your friend is either insane or doesn't know what he's talking about. I love Honda's and ITR's, but lets be a little open minded. I have Tein HA's on my ITR and I think the stock 350z will easily out handle mine. When I drove the 350z with its stock suspension, it hugged the road as if it was on rails. I know that the heaviness of the 350z is a disadvantage in performance but I personally loved it! It made the car feel extremely solid and safe. There were no rattles or squeeks unlike my ITR where it felt like it's gonna fall apart on harsh roads. Overall, the 350z was built like a tank.
I also know that most ITR owners love the rawness of their car and at one point I did too, but I'm getting older and the road noise on the freeway is starting to get unbearable and revving my motor to 8.5k rpm tiresome. It honestly feels like a tin can with wheels compared to the 350z. The ITR is an awesome track car and one of the best handling FWD production vehicles ever made, but people need to realize that there are better cars out there. I think the 350z is superior in every aspect, but I still have much respect for the ITR.
Thanks to the people who actually answered my question.

not very well read then are you?
R&T did a test a while back on the 350Z, E46 M3, 996 911, and corvette (Z06 maybe?). these cars are a bit out of the 350Z league you say? well you're right, but the 350 ate the lunch of the other cars they tested it agains, so they uped the anti. the 350Z lapped the track faster than both the M3 and the 911.
the 350 does well in T2 competition, which is also where the ITR is classed. gee, i haven't seen any ITR's at the runoffs lately. have you?

The 350Z is a nice car. But for roughly the same money, comparably equipped, you could get an S2000, an Evolution 8, or a WRX STi - all of which are faster and handle better. So there's nothing wrong with the 350Z, except by comparison with other cars that offer more car for the money.
The S2000 is much more expensive and slower than the 350z. The Base and Enthusiast model 350z starts at 26-28k. Also have you sat in the Evo and STI? They have a hideous looking interior and cheaper build quality compared to the 350z. The 350z is more of a luxury sports car. A car is not only based on performance. There are stock 350z's which have ran mid 13's, so it's not exactly a slug. It's a well-balanced car for young adults in my opinion.
How can anyone not love this car?

Anyhow, I don't want to turn this thread into a debate over which car is better. The ITR and 350z are both great cars.
