how did VIR go???
Since i didn't take my car with me, I did my flag station duty (penalty for passing when I shouldn't have) and left friday.......
I did get to see some guy in the super comp school put his rented cobra into the guardrail about 30 feet down pit lane!!!!! Not sure if he got his license or not??
any fun stuff at the sprint race or the enduro?

Bwahahaha!!! I heard about that, can you describe it in more detail?
Yeah the sprint and enduro went very well. Very close action, a huge field, and pretty clean racing overall. I don't think anyone got their car seriously wadded up this weekend in any of the school or race groups.
There was a good number of retirements in the enduro and I personally saw about 6 or 7 close calls resulting from coolant getting dropped at the top of the rollercoaster. A great weekend to start the season!

I was one of those close calls, I think. It was REALLY slimy up there for a few laps.
I didn't see official results for the enduro but we were 2nd in E3 and something like 24th overall. Not bad for a car that drove to the track:

I had a great time at the test+tune friday, but wasnt able to stay around for the rest of the weekend. I think the car will be a little faster this year, hopefully I can keep up with it.
undoubtedly the best thing about this weekend was dinner at Aunt Millie's Pizza Place right outside the track in Milton. Great food and a good place to relax and have a beer. If you haven't tried it you should.
We shook down our new del Sol and after a few times on the track we got the mapping worked out enough to have something decent for the race. It is still not quite right but we picked up 7 mph on the top end and found a couple of areas to improve on. Unfortunately we had an alternator belt shred at the 2.5 hour mark. we got it fixed but lost a good run. We will be ready for the 13 hour for sure. All in all we had a great weekend and best of all the driver(Sam Lockwood) did not put one mark on the car the whole weekend. Makes my job a lot easier. Great time at VIR.

Ya, it was the maroon Factory Five.... i almost certain it was their first session of the day.... i was just watching them pull out....(pit row is straight..hahaha)... and somehow he was maybe going to "drift" a little?? YO! DAWG! Anyway..... he just drove it right into the guard rail...... drove back up pit row, got a different rental cobra and I am pretty sure he looped it at turn 1.... unless it was a different guy in the comp school with a cobra that was late coming out???? whoever it was went off at turn one by going wide with some oversteer.....
anyway.... after that he drove like a *****...ahhaha....

Those rental Cobras were ridiculous. I've never been caught in so many freight trains in the HPDE1 group. How the heck does a 250+hp, purpose-built track car cruise around the track at 60mph? And there was 4 or 5 of the things. Not to mention they seemed to break down every other session. Color me unimpressed.
I had my first "incident" while instructing. It sucked. It was an intermediate student's car, his instructor decided to skip a session without letting the student know, so I hopped in. Looped it in hogpen, hit the railing on the inside. We're ok, the car has minor frame damage.

Man, I'm not a fan of that instructor swappin' stuff. I had a similar experience a while back. See link if interested: https://honda-tech.com/zero...ge=22

Yeah, there were quite a few trains in HPDE2 as well, most notably one lead by one of those cobras, not sure if it was a rental or not, but it had the plate 65Cobra, sounded blown as well. The other big train puller was that oldre blue corvette with no instructor. got quite a bit frustrating, all in all it was a great weekend, don't feel i learned much as my instructor said about 8 words the entire weekend, but otherwise it was fun

Friday's test in tune had a silver cobra with some old dude in it.... i could have driven my 4x4 F250 faster than he was going..... I am not sure why they even let him stay on the track..... It was scary seeing one of the porsche cup cars come into turn 3 at full speed with this tool driving at about 35mph.....

Crack Monkey is correct about the Cobra trains in HPDE 1. It was very noticable, from my vantage point, Station 15 on Saturday and Station 7 on Sunday.
