Default thermostat install

i have a jdm h22a in my 95 lude and my thermostat went out this weekend. So when i went to put a new one in i got a 95 vtec one even though it was smaller i reused the gasket, then put it in but it kept leakin. I eventually had to use some gasket paper and silicon gasket maker on it to get it to stop from leaking. Has anybody else had this problem on install.

well first off the reason why its leakin is bc you used the same gasket. did you get the thermo from honda? if not thats why you didnt get a new gasket with it. i just changed mine a couple months agoe it hasnt leaked a drop. if were you i would get that gasket from honda

the service manual says to use gasket maker on the the thermostat housing when you reinstall it. i used an aftermarket thermo and reused my stock gasket and it's fine no leaks

I had a problem with the size of the thermo when I changed out mine. I had to go around and find the right size I had to try a couple different shops. Go to a shop you can look in the book. and just look at all the different thermosats for h series motors. find the one thats the right size and im sure it has a matching gasket number. mine never leaked after i put it together.

I've only heard of the Mugen thermostats for the H22's, but it was the gasket that the thread starter was askin about.

You sure? I went to the dealer, and they showed me a smaller one.

I have a JDM H22A.

I went to Autozone & Kragen, and they showed me the same small sized thermostat. I went though the books at Autozone, and there was one that was a different part number, so I asked if they had it. They did, and it was the same size, but it was a Prestone Thermostat. Not sure if I should trust it or not.
