Default Known Problems with the Civic Si?

Just sold my Prelude SH and am seriously considering picking up an EP Civic Si..

Was wondering if there are any known problems with the car.. any issues to look out for when looking for a used one on the market.

Also, would it be better to wait out for the 04+ updated ones to hit the used market?

Thanks in advance for any info / advice!

The only problem I've had so far is the seatbelt sensor going bad. Also the tranny kinda grinds now.

2nd gear is notoriously weak on the EP for some reason. Also the clutch pedal will squeak, as will the steering rack. The clutch pedal and steering rack are really minor, but can be annoying. The transmission is the one you really have to watch out for.

Is the fact there going to have a 200 hp version later this year something you might think is a problem when buying the out going model ?

So is 2nd gear grind mentioned similar to what the the 5th Gen Prelude had? Which was supposedly fixed by replacing the Honda MTF with GM Syncromesh??

So there's no real need to bypass the initial batch of '03-'04 cuz of any problemas?! Hey, now that sounds quite encouraging!

Here's a great wallpaper I found..

I have this sneaking suspicion that the EP3 is about to acquire some kind of weird cult status.

After four years of hate and four years of being one of the most unsuccesful models ever sold in the USDM, I'm suddenly running across people everywhere scrambling to get one before they're done.

LOL...

Amazing. Just amazing.

Yeah, funny the kinds of "things" that acquire cult status.
I'd leave that up to the forthcoming Civic Si.

One problem, you'll get a bunch of people going "it looks like a minivan!"

I don't own one, but I'm sure that would get annoying after a while.

Shifter can grind. Hand brake might need to be tightend. If you lower the car the tie rods squeak. Thats about it.

Actually, only people like you on the NET shoot those remarks. Compliments are what i usually get in the real world. Most often comment i get is "hows it feel like shifting up there?" or "is that car a hybrid".

i am getting more compliments on the car the longer i own it. i've never heard the "minivan' remark except by the ignorant online.

like any car, if you drive it hard, you have to be prepared to pay for the consequences.

i think george is right, too. i don't care what the next si will be like. i got a great deal on my si and it has been the perfect companion to my miata. my wife loves it, i enjoy it, people who drive are surprised by it. it's an understated car that has only grown in popularity because the point of the car was misunderstood...like the original si. imagine that.

54K miles of daily driving and lots of hard autocrossing. I love this car more than anything I've ever owned.
