Default last nail in the coffin for ITR

Well have been thinking about getting rid for ages, but its such a cheap performance car to run. Fast forward to today and my drive in its replacement. My mate is off around the world so his Audi TT is going. I had an hour in it today and have the following to report.

The steering which is supposed to be numb is, not worse than the ITR with part worn tyres and it is as good as an S2000. Handling is odd. best described as remote compared to an ITR. You cant feel the bias shift anywhere nt as much and the sensation of loading up the outer shocks is not there. So, steering and handling not as good really, poor start. Brakes. I have always felt my stock ITR brakes to be very good, the TT has way more power, a serious amount more. The feel is not quite as good, but then I have braided lines. Ultimate power though and initial bite is good. Gearbox was as good and had an extra ratio, although it was more notchy overall.

TT's are deceptively fast. The boost comes in and off you go, typical Audi i.e refined. No real noise just some whirring, unlike the Honda. Its looking bad so far.

However, the but, and the big but is everything else. The interior is stunning. The AC is simple and works better than anything I have used so far. Heated leather seats were great without the closeness of the Recaro's but with similar support. All the controls are tactile in the TT and lots of aluminium adds to a quality feel. Quiet inside too. Better lights, better stereo, cruise control, trip computer and xenons. It feels like you are sitting in an aluminium shell carved from solid billet.

So thats that. I will get the car in 4 weeks or so. Amazing that a 90K Audi can make a 40K Honda feel so poor. Will miss it, but its time to move on.

Any 90k car could make a 40k car feel poor. AUDI TT is a very refined car I like them

not money, mileage.

The ITR feels 'old' with 40K

After reading that, I'm left with the impression that you're leaving the R for something with more bells and whistles.. something the R was never promoted to have anyway.

I like the TT and Audi interiors in general, like in the S4. Enjoy the new car.

Does your R really feel old, or look old? As in, the design and interior layout? Remember, the car was designed in 1993.

??? Am I missing something? These cars are engineered to run for what feels like 'forever'.

My ITR doesn't.

I do, though.

the itr is a faster car in a straight line and in the corners. it just doesnt havent any torque so it doesnt feel like its movin as fast. drive a mk3 vr6 gti. you will feel like you are in a rocket but then you look at the speedo and its nothin spectacular

I guess. I mean I go to places and honestly feel out of place with it. I dont run a second car, dont believe in it. Right now I need a more of a , how can I put it, 'grown ups' car! Plus easy accessability of 260HP with a chip and the replacement suspension to get the TT back to the mk1 spec I think I can have all I want. I have owned the Integra for 4 yrs, had a ball, its a great car, but its always going to be a yoof motor. Have considered the S2K but its not as good IMO as the ITR in a number of ways, and the other option the Boxster is daylight robbery, maybe I'll end up with one, dont know. I am left with the opinion that there is no better performance car for the money than an ITR and consider myself fortunate to have owned one really.

This is not to bash the Integra I own one remember BUT a TT is faster to 60 and to 100. Add some wet weather and its all over. Its not about speed anyways, if it was I'd go and buy a TVR.

I can understand that. I'm 32 and drive a bright yellow Integra I guess that might look kind of funny to some people. I have an Accord also, but I drive it when the weather is bad or have passengers to pick up, not cos the R looks the way it does. I understand ya but I suppose I just don't care what others think of my car.. they don't get to drive it!

32 eh, well I am 34. 35 this yr and still have a race license and CW ITR as well as being a Director in my company. I dont like golf, prefer to watch boxing than a game of cricket and laugh like a 10yr old when people push on doors marked pull. Its just time to move on you know? Would love to scratch my 911 itch but I cant justify spending £50K on a lump of metal.

While I can certainly appreciate your position (I'm 36) there is no way a TT is going to be faster around an autox course or a road track. I enjoy the styling of the TT, but it is soft, soft, soft and has other 'drivability' issues as well.

Good luck.

TTs are pretty nice. I got to ride in one. I still don't get why everyone is so amazed by the interior of German cars. Well, Mercedes has nice interiors, but I wasen't impressed by the TT interior. Its nice, but for a 90k car its not that impressive. Of course I didn't drive it either though, so I can't comment on that.

The Germans put together some nice interiors. The materials are nice, the layout is sharp, and the tolerances are tight. From what I've seen anyway.

The TT isn't $90k. The thread starter was talking about the amount of miles on the car.
