how long do i need to let my car sit before adjusting the valves

it's recommended that the engine be "cold". I've always parked it overnight and done it in the morning and never had a problem..

When I didnt' know how the shop only waited like 3 hrs if I remember right though...

I wouldnt see any reason to wait more than 4 hours. Especially in winter weather.

Just use common sense, if it is still warm, its going to be hotter on the inside.
