Default Has anyone put a detatchable hub on an JDM ITR SRS wheel?

I am thinking of ways of layering my security for my car. One way is to buy an aftermarket wheel and get a detatchable hub. I really love the way the JDM ITR SRS wheels look, and if there is a way to mount a detatchable hub, that would be excellent. Please share your feedback!

not a bad idea... but the safety aspect of it make me a little nervous.

wouldn't you have to plug in the airbag everytime and risk it popping?

detachable steering hub doesn't do ****.

-it makes it easier to pop the ignition
-they can just bring their own steering wheel

It's not like the hub is locked onto your car. All it is to take off is six screws then they can use whatever 6 bolt steering wheel they have.

detach does nothing but help the theif out when stealing your car.

1. they have all that front space to pop your ignition with nothing in there way.>> having the club on there would slow them down better than not havig anything there. spoonitr said this , ill repeat it

2. if you have or dont have power steering turning the wheel is still easy(very easy with power steering) especially if you have the cheap momo hubs. but even if youhave the jdm hubs which are solid turning it is still easy

3. and taking out your main relay would be alot easier than bringing a steering wheel with you everywhere. but im sure you knew that already. plus youcan rewire your mainrelay and hide it in another place aswell.

4. your financially screwed when your insurance and the other party in an accident finds out you messed with the airbags... all just to chill without an air bag steering wheel cool

5. i could go on but i'll tired

Aren't there hubs with certain key's that only allow your wheel to bolt up?

Thanks for the words. I'm trying to think of layers...not a single solution though, but I'd still like to hear opinions.

My friend with an EK w/o power steering recently bought a detatchable hub for his car.

For ***** and giggles, I backed the car out of a parking space and drove it around the lot without a steering wheel at all. Just grabbed onto the hub itself and it was easy enough to turn, even at low speeds.

As far as security aspects go, a detatchable hub is a joke.

Even with locking rapfix......someone could still use a hacksaw and cut through the momo hub, remove the rapfx completely in like 1 minute, then take the large steering bolt off and remove the hub.

Then they just slap their hub, with their wheel on and they are done. It is useless. Trust me. Unless you fabbed up a solid hub that cannot be cut through and use the rapfix. Who knows how strong that rapfix lock is anyway. I'm sure someone that could pick locks could get through it easily.
