just got a price quote at maaco......
I wanted to get a paint job for my 98 civic and and they said for the entire paint job it was gunna cost about $700 for jams and doors and everything for the 2 year warranty then I asked I wanted a clear coat and they said about $2100 why is it so much for clear coat...... So if they just did a normal paint job it wouldn't shine it would just look like a flat color any advice on anything?
Had my DC Painted Championship White by Maaco and I was very happy with the outcome.Like stated above it all depends on who the painter is and if they prep it properly.I'd maybe suggest to you to do the preping yourself and then bring it there for them to paint it.

that's very true, but the quality of all their paints are the same which will peel sometime

...don't do Maaco. You'll end up paying more for multiple paint jobs from them than a single [expensive/quality] paint job from some place else.
The $700 paint job is a single stage paint where the clear coat is integrated in with the paint, still comes out shiny however the paint will not last. 2 stage paint will last long as long as you take care of the paint and is pretty close to oem paint.

where to start...
the 700 was a price for a full enamel job, the 2100 was the price for a multi-state urethane job.
if you go with the enamel, no it will not look like flat paint. it is the same **** that you use on model cars to have shiney paint.
you have alot more to learn before you have a decent understanding of what it is you are actually trying to accomplish and how to go about it.
i learned about this crap by reading the archives for hours and hours and months and months. get to it rookie.

or you can buy paint for about 200 and buy clear, prep it yourself which isnt much money for supplies and what not, then rent a tent or if youre lucky have access to a paint booth. a 3000 paint job will only cost you 600, well it did for me anyones.

My first shot was terrible, I wouldn't paint a garbage can for my first shot, nevermind the car I'm going to be driving.
