There is a block stamp with the engine code between the block and trans and to the left of the exhast manifold. It is easy to find.

you will also notice that the a2 has a hydro clutch and the first gen is cable. it will give you the engine codes right on ther block.

All jdm B16A are stamper the same..."B16A" with no extra number beside it. 1st gen and 2gen B16's are most easily identified by the wire harness. A 1st gen has milky white plugs on it and uses 2 O2 sensors, 2nd gen engines has grey plugs and use only one heated o2 sensors further back on the header.

Its that simple.

You can look on the head right above the exhaust manifold for the date it was made that will tell you what it is if it is jdm if it is not a jdm motor then it would say b16a2 if it is an a2

What if it is B16a then followed by a long number starting with a 5?

A first gen B16A's valve cover has "DOHC" written in a larger font than "VTEC". A second gen B16A's valve cover has "VTEC" written in a larger font than "DOHC".
