Stock 14s from a 93 Civic EX
This is probably an easy question for some you guys to answer but how much does the stock steely from the civic weigh and how wide is it.
I was thinking of going with that for my first season of SoloII. I need a tire thats at least 150 tread wear and up to a 225 width.
Is there a 225 that will work on these steelies. Because I don't think I could have much traction with the 185s that everyone recommends.
I figured that the Honda Gurus would know.
Thanks for any help.

I run 225 Toyos on 6" wide OE VW wheels so that's not an issue. Whether they fit in the EX fender is another question, and whether they are faster than narrower tires is yet another.

I've run the Hoosier 225 on a 5.5" rim... Not recommended, but you can make it work and it will clear the fender - just roll the lip or it will roll it for you!

He said heneeds 150 treadwear, so I'm guessing running STS.

Does anyone have objection to the Falkens??
Right now I've got studs on the 14s and my "High Performance" tires are 205/40-17 Nankang NS-1 (good for the money) on my "show" wheels but I am definately not gonna run those wheels for competition. Way too heavy.

I've got 205's on my EX right now, on 6.5" rims. Doesn't appear like there's going to be a rubbing issue with the fender, but if I went up to 225's, I'd probably roll or cut the lip just to not have to worry about it.

For some reason, peope seem stuck on 225 R-compounds, which is not what you want.
The Falken is widely accepted as the best performance tire for the money. In larger sizes, there are some other options, at twice the price. But in 14", it's your only choice (AFAIK) for a DOT tire that meets the treadwear restriction in STS.
I currently run 15" Azenis on my Miata. No complaints so far. I'll be using them at VIR this weekend.
