Hello every buddy as my first post I would like to say hi to everyone and im looking forward to looking at these pages for months to come. Im very new to the honda/acura thing. Before two months ago my whole car knowledg was wraped up in a 4g63 until the night i was beatin by my buddy 240whp crx in my 350 + hp awd 1st gen on the freeway. So I decited to expand and build myself a daily driver honda. And since the hatch is somwhat sexey I went with it. Its a black 94 hatch great condition. Now to my inqury on engine swamps. I want to build a very reliable 13-14 second honda. Nothing major, just somthing to have some fun with. I was wonder witch engine to go with. I money isnt a problem as I can get engines for dirt cheap, well except the hard to find k20's and some Type R's. What i want is an engine that will hold 220 whp and maby 30-50 shot of jucie. Im not to interested in a turbo/supercharger package due to I still have my "boosted beast". I was think of going with a gsr ive herd going things in some searches through honda-tech and the word around is that 220 whp with stock internals is somthign that is very possable. While on the other hand my buddy witht he crx has a boosted b16 and he swears by the things durablity. The only problem he has had with it is the crank pooped out on him around 220whp. Even an Ls/v-tech has crossed my mind but im not really interest with the fule tunning and such that would be a byproduct to the Vtech head. Any information or your 0.02 cent would be great.

That is the installers/tuners fault, not the parts. B18 = turque (b18c, LS/vtec). B16 lacks torque. Your question(s) are very broad. What is your budget?

 

Well when it comes to engines its very almost anything. One of my friends just offerd me a 1.8 gsr with less then 40K miles on it with a skunk 2 ecu and the acura's breaks and suspenion instaled for 1200$. Ive got shaddy friends i think lol.

Its possable. But on the other hand alot of my friends are V-tech junkies. Im always seeing b 1.6s and 1.8s all over the place. anyways i would really like some help with this stuff.

 

i was a b16 fan untill i ran a newer gsr. the torque adds up fast and in an eg hatch would provide a fun daily driver. budget is also a key facter as stated above, since you have a good price on the motor install if you can spend a few bucks on replacing the gsr's intake manifold with an after market or a type-r, b16 style.this can make a dramatic difference in the way the car behaves. .. use your juice if you want, just keep the car's weight down as much as possible.

 

Have you considered an H22? It is a lot more work to swap into an EG than any B-series, and there is the minor drawback of not being able to go back to B or D series ever again (at least w/ Hasport mounts).

However the motors produce more power than GSR B18's and are cheaper. Due to the increased displacement, stock H22's make more torque than many fully built B series. You can make 200+ whp with simple bolt-ons, and the motor will take a small (50-75hp) shot of nitrous without complaint. 13 second 1/4 mile passes can be very easily achieved with this setup.

If you can get a B18C swap for $1200, you can probably get an H22 for less than $1000.

Well I could go witht he H22 but there hard to get in my area. There being grabed every chance the come up and actully seem to be more pricey then the b18 around here. And somone brought up the point about saving weight I alreay know there will be little use for the back seats(im a big boy) so there out. And of course AC compresser since its never to hot here. But what else. Im not a big fan of removing sound deadining stuff.
Its already got some centerline rims so that takes care of a few unsprung pounds.

 

H22 is very fun in a hatch. The extra weight is not a big deal w/ suspension, and the torque is simply beautiful.

 

It would be nice to have that extra tq. Maby all ask my buddy how much it will cost to put the h22 in since it seems like theres some extra stuff need to be done to make it work. Then do you go with the h22 trany?
