hey harper, what did you do to your SE-R????? inquiring minds in PS-1 want to know!!!
i've been working on the probe (fixing broken tranny). turns out that at the last summit event, a pressure plate locating pin from the flywheel fell out and banged around long enough to put a hole in the tranny. the oil all leaked out an that was all she wrote
well, i'm still working on it; hopefully will finish it by the end of this weekend....
is eric going to be there this weekend driving his SE-R?
have fun, you guys. wish i was going to be there!

Me too, as it was to be my first ECHC race. Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait until CMP.
If anyone who was planning on going to LMS and is looking for an extra weekend to shake out the winter bugs in their race car, the MWHC season openner will be at Mid-Ohio on April 1-3. There will also be a 1 hour enduro at the end of the day on Sunday, if anyone is interested in extra enduro track time. All the information is available at http://www.racenasa.com.
Hope to see you there!

Not as much as I wanted, i acutally bought new cams for it, but the exhaust cam was screwed up so it is on back order...otherwise, i took about 30 lbs of weight out of it, moved the battery to the trunk, took off the power steering and created more of a ram air intake.....so at this point, maybe another 5 hp, not enought to catch the probe ;-).....but once i get those cams in watch out..
I'll be running it in the sprint races at VIR this sat then doing the enduro w/ eric in his car sunday
wish you were going to be there, although I don't think the SE-R can touch the probe on the full course (unless it rains ;-)

holy crap! that reminds me, harper, i have some of the most awesome in car footage i've ever taken; its from the VIR race we did in the pouring down rain last year; action packed to say the least! got at least 4 good laps of your car "WRC" stylin' all over (and occasionally off!) the course.....
then it started to dry up a bit and Chuck and i started to move up really fast. if that race had only gone on for two more laps (eric and the other bmw were just in front of us at the checkered flag).....
when you see the tape, you will see that harper dude gots some serious car handlin skillz, yo!!!
good luck this weekend!

hey harper!
i have the whole race broken into lap by lap mpeg files (hi quality); if i had somewhere to host them i'd put them up!
and the next best near off is when you fly down hog pen onto the front straight after just passing me at 70+ mph sideways with me right behind. i thought for sure you were gonna do some plowin of the lower 40!!!!
there's some good footage of the old 1st gen ita green rx-7 losing it multiple times, too.
i guess the next available NASA event for me will be either at CMP or i think the same weekend there is an event at Mid Ohio; i think i'll probably rather go to Mid O, if given the chance....
sounds like your car is gonna be a killer; what do you think - rematch????

Todd,
The CMP event date was moved to the end of April (April 30-May 1) so it no longer conflicts with the Mid-Ohio event on April 1-3. Hopefully you can make it to both, as I know I'll be at both.
Regards,
Sam

LMS news in today's Charlotte Observer.
It sucks that they are trying to remove the T3>T4 dip.

Humpy using high-tech solution to smooth out race track
By DAVID POOLE
The Charlotte Observer
Using data from both a satellite circling 22,000 miles above the Earth and a global positioning system device attached to an SUV being driven around the track by H.A. (Humpy) Wheeler, Lowe's Motor Speedway will have its racing surface smoothed by diamond-grinding in time for the track's May NASCAR events.
The plan to be announced at a news conference at the track this afternoon means the 1.5-mile track's surface will not be repaved, but will be smoothed to remove bumps and other inconsistencies instead.
The work is aimed at creating more side-by-side racing for the Nextel All-Star Challenge on May 21 and the Coca-Cola 600 on May 29. Engineers spent more than 30 hours with lasers making a three- dimensional virtual map of the track's surface. Then Wheeler, the track's president, drove around the track in each of three distinct racing lines carrying the GPS device.
Data from both processes were then combined to identify variations in the track's surface. Originally, seven areas that needed work were identified.
But Wheeler was so happy with the results in those areas he decided that the diamond-grinding machine should be used on the entire surface in the track's turns. The pavement on the straightaways won't be redone.
Wheeler described the three grooves he drove around the track as the qualifying groove, around the bottom; the passing groove, a lane above that, and a third lane out near the wall, which Wheeler called the "Richard Petty groove."
The track was last repaved in 1994. It has since grown to become notorious for several bumpy areas, including a particularly pronounced bump in the turns 3-4 end known as "the Humpy bump."</TD></TR></TABLE>

yup... what will really suck is the teams that have a 'set-up' for the surface that is there now... not the one that will be there after the milling/grinding is done. From the news ad it seems that they will only do the work in areas that need it.... which will make some nice interesting transitions in the corners.
I wonder if they will have the work done before the event or finish it up right at the event? I am sure there will be some hot and heavy testing done if they have any free track time before the race.
