Shifting Question....
But I don't know about you guys but.. I was driving my friends 92-95 prelude and when I was shifting, the shifter felt nice and smooth.. I mean, I didn't have to push it into gear.. It just went right in there.. I couldn't even tell if it was in gear.. And then I went back into my gsr and felt something different.. I never thought about it before but.. The gsr doesn't shift as smoothly as the prelude.. Maybe it's just my gsr but... I was wondering if it's like that for everyone elses gsr.. It's as if I have to pop it into gear instead of just sliding it into gear.. Do you guys know what I mean??

the clutch on that prelude that you were driving was probably almost gone
therefore allowing you to "slide" the gears into place w/out pushing them. I have a gsr and my friend has a prelude i didnt notice anything smooth about his clutch when i was driving it in comparison to my car.

usually when you shift into a gear without having to press on the clutch its a bad thing.... like turbo01gsr says.. his clutch is probably shot....
I know the feeling where you have to like put a little force to get the shifter into gear.... dont worry about that.. I think if you want a better shift then try for a short shifter.. or get some urethane bushings ( they might help the feeel of the shift )

the shifter on the integra is notchy for a reason.....there is no vagueness as to where the gears are on a integra and the shifts are short and precise.....ive driven other cars and the shifter is real smooth...but its not as precise...i like my notchiness and i love the shifter in my GSR.....anyone who appreciates a nice shifter/shift action will get into an integra gsr/itr or s2000 or nsx or any of the hondas of that nature and feel the shifter and comment on how nice they are.....the prelude wasnt designed with as much of that in mind.....i think it has cable linkage too which gives more vagueness and makes it less of a positive shift feel
I once test-drove a '94 Prelude VTEC. I think the difference stems from the fact that the throws are much, much longer in the Prelude than the Integra. The longer the throw, the more numb the shift can feel.

I believe that the reason they feel so different is because the Integra uses a couple metal bars for the shift linkage and the Prelude has a cable system.
The metal bar system (I know, I know, that's hardly the technical term...) causes it to feel more defined and "hard." Using the cable system, everything will feel much smoother because the cable has a little give to it. The bad thing about cable is that it could potentially break and it is hardly the positive feel you should have when doing "spirited driving" or racing.

My Camry also had a cable linkage. A cable linkage transmits no vibration into the interior, while a solid linkage shifter will vibrate and move with the engine and tranny. But like you said, it gives a better feel for shifting.
Thanks for the replies.. I just wanted to make sure that there wasn't anything wrong with my car.. And no, I haven't changed the tranny fluid yet.. But when I bought it back in February '01, the previous owner, which was a female, had a 50,000 mile tune up on it.. And so when I bought it, it had only 53,xxx miles on it and plus it's a '94..
