Default Clutch Help

My trans took a dump on me a few weeks back so I pulled an 89 DX trans from a local Pick-a-Part. The splines on the output[main] shaft were different between this trans and my old one so I swapped in a clutch disk from a 93 EG DX but used my flywheel and my pressure plate. Obviously, I was not thinking and they won't grab due to the differences in pressures between the cable and hydro transmissions, I am assuming..

My real question is can I simply buy another OEM pressure plate, and another aftermarket clutch disk and pilot bearing and be fine? Of course I will resurface the fly and replace the TO bearing also. Anyone see any reasons this won't work?

Thanks for any replies, - Darrell

if you arent looking for a clutch that will hold alot of horses then yes you would be fine, but if your gonna spend the money go on and fork over the cash for a 3 puck clutch, it is well worth the money, BUT if you decide you just want oem replacement, go to autozone buy a duralast clutch....they are pretty cheap and have lifetime warranties

Well, I don't plan on making anything spectacular whpwise. But I doubt the stock clutch could handle more than a launch or two before slipping like a 1 leg'd man on wet ice.

Thats why I was going to use an aftermarket clutch, for example an exedy street clutch. Just didn't wanna fork the cash out for another pressure plate and flywheel if I don't have to.

Im almost positive you can re-use your flywheel. The 91's have a 20 spline input shaft on the tranny and the older ones have a 21 spline. (If Im wrong then flame away).

You can get an exedy clutch kit for about $120 at most online stores, thats pressure plate, disc, bearing etc.... Just make sure the clutch matches the new tranny.

Yeah, but they want me to wait like 3-5 days for shipping and I need this car asap lol. If I really need to, I can wait, but I'd rather bust *** and get this car together.

exedy makes a really nice 3 puck clutch that will hold power, plus it will still drive nice on the street, take a look at comp clutches, ive got a really nice one in my car, unfortunatly your reality is that you will have to wait
