Default CTR pistons in a B17 block

i'm rebuilding my bottom block soon and was going to put in some CTR pistons...i've done search on these, but still don't have a solid answer...my question is will my b17 gsr rods go well with the ctr pistons? if not, what needs to be done to make it fit? and is it reliable..

There are two threads on this page that deal with this subject.

I used to have a B17 in my hatch, in fact, its still sitting in the garage now. I had CTR pistons in it for a short while, so listen up.

Compression will be 12.4-12.5:1. I see you are in Sacramento, well, I am in the area also. Let me tell you, the ref will tell you to get lost if you try to smog it. The NOX levels will be rediculously high from the high compression. You might want to reconsider your piston choice.

If you still want them in your car, you need to have the rods machined. Remove 1mm of material from the sides of the eye and you will be good to go.

no, the Cspeed calculator is wrong. The CTR/ITR pistons come out of the hole, giving the engine a negative deck height. When you calculate this into the equation, you will come up with the real compression ratio. There is a stick at the top of the All Motor forum explaining how high the compression really is.

Pr3's work very nicely in the B17. I ran some in mine before I sold the shortblock. Puts compression at 10.7. A nice number thats higher then stock, but not too high. If you wanted it higher, run a thinner headgasket or perhaps some flat faced valves.. Even a P72 head would bump it up to 11.0:1.
