Anyone know how to change brake fluid?
Anyone? Also, what kind of pump you use when you change yr transmission oil, i mean tools to pump back the Transmission oil back to the hole. Also, where to buy? Does Pepboys have it? Thks!
i usually pump out about 1/2 or 3/4 from the reservoir of the old fluid by using a turkey baster (watch out not to get brake fluid on your paint!!!).. then filll the reservoir back up to max.. then i bleed the brake system by putting a clear vinyl tube (i think its 1/4" i forget) over the bleeder screw and let out the old fluid and air bubbles until theres no more bubbles and the fluid coming out is clear to flush out all the old fluid from the lines and out of the master cyl reservoir... make sure you dont let it run dry....
have a friend pump up the brake pedal and hold it down.. then open up the bleeder screw and let the old fluid and air come out.. repeat this until the fluid coming out is clear and bubble free.. start from the wheel farthest from the master cyl (right rear).. and end up w/ the wheel closest to the master cyl (left front)... make sure your master cyl doesnt go dry.. check the level while bleeding!!! and dont let brake fluid get on your paintjob..
as for the tranny fluid.. i got a pump that attaches to a long bendable tube and just pump it in the filller hole.. cost like $5 or less at the auto part store..

for brake bleeding...if you can get access to a vaccuum bleeder...it makes things soooooo much quicker and faster and not much room for error with it, meaning its not likely to leave any air in the system.

haha actaully i have a dedicated one in the garage... and since i do ALL the maintenance on the cars. no one else would even come into the garage... but thanks for the heads up

I've seen hand-operated vacuum pumps at auto stores for like $30, I definetly will get one soon, I should probably flush my brake fluid, too.

it takes way less time to suck most of the dirty fluid in the reservoir out then add some fresh fluid.. than to try to expel all the old fluid in the lines AND in the master cyl reservoir.. then u dont have to have whoever is pumping the brake pedal pump for so long..
Teken: how much did you get your speed bleeders for? did you have any problems with them? I heard you have to be really careful w/ them because my friend w/ a prelude had then snap and break in his caliper.. if you have any addition input on them i'd appreciate it.. i was thinking about getting them so i wouldnt have to bug ppl to pump the pedal while im at the bleeder screw/caliper..

Thanks for the response Teken... i guess i'll look into it and be careful to not overtighten it.. so i dont have to bug g/f or frenz to pump the pedal for me... as for my friend w/ the prelude yeah he said he over tightened it and it snapped in the caliper.. he couldnt extract the broken portion so after not using his car for a while he located i forget if it was NSX or Legend calipers that he put in...
Did anyone else's leak if they tightened only to speedbleeder's spec? Found a blue puddle of brake fluid in my wheel so I went higher than the instructions.
My speedbleeders' threads also stick out out of the caliper. Tempts you to try to keep cranking on the wrench. Just looks a little weird.
Otherwise, they also get my

Who needs to bleed his (still mushy) brakes before this weekend,

So I looked at the Speed Bleeders site. It looks good to me, but could you answer a few more questions. First, if you're busy bumping the brakes, how do you know when there is no more air in the lines? Second, you obviously need to pump the fluid into something, what do you pump it into? And Finally, now that you've got a container of old brake fluid, how do you dispose of it?

clear flexible hose into a 1/2 gallon milk jug.
The number of pumps depends. If fluid hasn't beeb changed for a while, note the color change. If you do you fluid yearly, you learn just how many pumps to flush each line.
Just remember, 1 quart of brakefuild is cheap.

Old fluid = I have no clue!!!!!
I asked Autozone, they don't accept it. Said to call EPA. I have 2 gallons needing to get ride of.
BTW antifreeze goes down the toilet HERE. Water treatmant plants will handle it.
