Default '94 Accord Ex\Lx Automatic - Shifting\Reving Problem\Lacking Power

I have a '94 accord ex canadian lx american... automatic 4 cyl. non v-tec (wish it was though) ok heres my problem and i hope its fixable without having to buy a new car haha... my car like revs out and won't shift... im on the highway and i go to pass a car, kick it down to pass and the car down shifts or whatever and it like revs to 5 or 6rpms and it won't shift unless i let off the gas and then kick it back down, its weird...

its almost like i have the car in 1st gear and have the peddle to the floor, it just revs out and keeps reving its really annoying... and i know thats not good on the car... haha also the car can only do about 125-130kms, 80mph or so...
seems to me the car should be able to do more then that and have a little bit more power then it does?! my car can't even spin on wet pave, it probbaly can't even spin on ice thats how much power it has haha, i know its no race machine
but if someone can help me it would be great!!

thanks

it's hard to explain what it does... the car will even do it when you kick it down to pick up some speed, the rpms go to like 5 or so then it just like stays there until you let off the gas and then push it down to the floor, it sounds like the cars going to blow up haha, one of these days its going to, maybe thats the only way to fix this problem?! cause i have a heavy foot haha

thanks

check the kickdown cable. its the cable that goes from your throttle body to the tranny. open ur throttlebody plate all the way and make sure that the lever on the tranny lifts all the way up. if its not in sequence, the tranny shifts wrong and it has problems downshifting. Also check your transmissions fluid level before you do that. with the motor off check the fluid and make sure its between the marked crosshatch pattern.

Well i got somewhat of a tune up... they changed my plugs\wires\distributor cap\Rotor Button!! and none of this did anything for my car... i still have the shifting problem!! they couldn't change my fuel filter because if they changed that they were going to have to replace the brake lines and everything else cause they would break those removing the fuel filter?!?! i think i need a new mechanic?!
they also disconnected my egr line and plugged that off and the car was running\idling way better!!

i wish i could get my shifting problem fixed if anyone can think of anything that might be causing the car not to shift at those rpms that would really be of some help!!

thanks

i took my car for a burn on the highway tonight and its sooo close to shifting at those rpms, since i had a little tune up done, its almost like one little thing causing it not to shift... it also goes to almost 6 grand before it tries to shift, before it was barly 5 grand!! so so so so closee!!
i'm going to get my kickdown\throtle cable adjusted tomorrow and reset my ecu to see if that does anything!!

...because the car isn't recirculating it's own exhaust gas back into the engine. In a way it's like you trying to jog around town while somehow constantly breathing part outside air, part your own fart. It would suck and you'd probably run like crap.

check the cable like someone said above and check your fluid level and color. You might need a tranny drain. good luck.

is that kickdown cable hard to check\adjust yourself or do you recommend a local honda dealer to check it out?!

also what color should the tranny fluid be?! like a red\pinkish color?!

thanks for all the info!!

no it's not hard..you can do it yourself. The fluid should be a bright red. When was the last time you changed the fluid?

so its a do it yourself thing wicked, i'll have to give it a try once i find it haha
ok i thought it was a bright red cause i checked it the other day!! she was chop full

umm the last time the tanny fluid was done, it was done right around november 2004 just before i got my car they did a flush or something the buddy said!!

do you think you could describe the kickdown cable a little bit in more detial or a picture or something showing right where it is and how to adjust it, cause my luck i'll end up messing it up haha

but thanks again!!

Well i finally got my car fixed! my timing belt was off by 6 degrees! which was causing my car not to shift at those high rpms! now she shifts just before red line when you kick her down! and she has lots of power!
so if anyone is having any problems like...

car lacking serious power!
load engine!
spark knock!
not shifting at high rpms!

then id suggest getting your timing and timing belt checked! this cured my problem!

'94 accord ex canadian! auto!

thanks for the help everyone!
