Default B16 swap..vtec and map problem...searched

just helped a friend swap a jdm b16a2 into a 96 civic ex. used the 96 harness. car runs great when you unplug the map sensor to start the car then plug it back in. He got a new map sensor and the car would start for 5 seconds then shut off, but I think its bc he didnt put the rubber o ring on.

heres the real question.

Vtec is not engaging, we have 2 left over plugs from the harness, purge valve solenoid which isnt used and vtec oil pressure sensor. The car is obd2 to obd1 converted using a skunk2 p28 ecu. Is vtec not engaging bc map sensor isnt functioning right? Or is it possible that the ecu he bought doesnt have the vtec oil pressure engagement built into the ecu? Any other suggestions would be great.

on obd1 motors, the oil pressure sensor was built into the ecu, they didnt use an oil pressure sensor for vtec until obd2 motors...or at least thats as much as i can gather. the motor we have in is obd1 using an obd2 harness...thats why it isnt used there.
