Default Catback advise

If you had to chose between an APex-i N1 and Skunk2, which would you go with. Are they the same in terms of performance? Any bottlenecks in any of these?

Thanks

Why are you limiting yours choices to only those two? It depends on your set-up and what you want to accomplish. Is your motor stock, bolt-ons, internals?

Oops sorry.....my setup is just boltons. Right now I have a DC JDM header and AEM CAI. I just want to finish up my exhaust with a catback and be done with it. I am happy with the power as is, I just want the car to breathe a little easier.

My primary choice was a T1R but seems like it is now discontinued(and at a very good price), my order got cancelled b/c the last one had been sold. These 2 choices I have listed are the only ones that come close to the price the T1R was offered at(T1R was lower).

Pretty much the same difference. They are the same OD and are both pretty equal and decent quality work

I have the Skunk2, I got it over the Apexi N1 meerly because the sale price at the time was less than the Apexi and it included the silencer which was important to me.

The only big differences are that the Apexi cannister is angled and the Skunk2 is straight, the tail pipes themselves are a bit different, and the sound. The Apexi tends to be a bit raspy and higher pitched, the Skunk2 has a deeper tone.

Silencer is important to me too, don't mind a bit of a bottleneck driving aroudn town to turn down the volume. I only lap about 1-2 times a year since the closest track is 3 hrs away and track time isn't cheap.

Isn't the skunk full SS and Apex Ceramic coated?

I don't think the T1R is discontinued. I'd check with http://www.aj-racing.com and see. I picked one up in October and there were no signs of that catback being cancelled.

This is pretty much why I got it. Mine is not a daily driver and I run at Limerock which has a Db limit and I wanted something that came easily able to turn down the noise before I got kicked out. Which btw hasn't happened yet.

It depends on what you're looking for and what your plan is. But between the two you listed, you won't go wrong with either.

Honest answer is that the Skunk 2 over stock only offered upper noticeable response say between 8,000 and revlimit. I had the same I&H and ran the same track with both the stock catback and the Skunk2 & the gains are really only apparant at WOT and in/near the red with the Skunk2 feeling smoother.

I don't remember about the Apexi, but yes the Skunk2 is full SS with nice welds and some beefy heavy flanges and no bottlenecks or neck downs, true 60mm OD through.

Sorry no dynos with it but I might do a run or 2 this weekend since there is supposedly a dyno available at the HPDE I'm attending.

Not only that but I got an email that offered me a spot for time trials. Something I've been looking forward to. But I've never driven there so I am not about to push it there yet.

Can't wait to grab a crapload of ballast time in the passengers seat on Friday for Test and Tune sessions with who ever will take me.

Just get your act together for Watkins Glen Op. Rumor has it I might BBQ again!

Yeah, I did contact AJ-Racing about 2 days ago, the 63mm b-pipe and catback are now being discontinued and are both sold out for the DC2. I believe they are now developing the 70mm catback and only offering that for DC2s now.....which I feel is too big for a motor that is stock with boltons. Trust me, it was a sad day for me when I found out.

Thanks for the review. Looks like Skunk2 is better than the Apex-i(I'm sure Apex-i is not SS).

I had the Apex'i N1 on my old hatch, and i was pleased with it. Good sound, no rattle. I chose it over the Skunk 2, but both are good systems for your needs.
