Clunking/Chattering noise in the tranny when clutch is not engaged????
my tranny started making weird noises a couple of weeks ago
...there's a clunking/chattering noise when it's in neutral and pretty much in every gear when i'm driving.
..I'm thinking it's the clutch release bearing but i'm not quite sure yet...
anyone have any ideas on what else could be wrong with it?

probably the ISB(Input Shaft Bearing) or any other main shaft bearing...Bad ISBs are common in hondas, especially civics.

How many miles does this tranny have on it?
Drain your fluid and see if you see any metal shavings..if you do have shavings then it would be from the bad bearings tearing apart.
Are you sure it's coming from the tranny?
If so then i'm thinking TOB or ISB.

When I rebuilt my tranny on my D16 there was a guide bolt i dident quite tighten up enough, Well long story short it ended up rubbing against my pressure plate making almost like a woodpecker noise and took me a week to figure out and 3 more tranny installs to find out.
Unlikey thats your proplem but id thought id trow it out there if it helps you...

the transmission has roughly about 108K on it...but i had rebuilt 3 months ago put new synchros in i think
I think the guy just took my old synchros and sanded the burs on them....cuz i paid the guy $250 for "new synchros" supposedly that rebuilt it...but it ran fine afterwards..
i'm almost certain that it's the input shaft bearing is the culprit this time...thanks to R33civic for the write up referral...
