Default Acura Integra Type-R SCCA E Prod car

Greetings,
The SCCA recently accepted the Acura Integra Type-R into the National E Production class. I am prepping my car that was built for Grand Am Cup racing. The weight that SCCA set for the car is 2165 without driver. Looking to take about 200 pounds out of the car! So far I've found and ordered fiberglass hood, rear deck and dashboard. I can use fiberglass doors since I have NASCAR bars in my rollcage. Anyone know if there is someone making fiberglass doors for a 2000 Integra? Any suggestions on taking more weight off the car? At that weight, should be the fastest front wheel drive EP car in class. Competition is Miata, 2nd gen RX-7, and 240Z.
Thanks,
Dennis

I don't know anybody that does fiberglass doors for that car.
I just wanted to say how much I envy you. I'd really love to build one of those.

I'm only about $35K short.
But I'm saving pennys in a jar.

Are you planning to keep a photo log of the build? If not, I know many of the frequent HT.com crowd would appreciate it.

I just wanted to say this is kick-*** news- I've been wondering how the R would do. Do you have pics of the car? When do you plan on being ready to race?

You might want to look in the Drag Racing forum and see if any of them have suggestions on lightening the car as well.

And welcome to Honda-Tech!

Thanks for the enthusiasm about the car. Piper Motorsports built me a fine Grand Am Cup car that needs very little for EP. The weight reduction is the thing now. I'm arranging to have Mitch Piper take the weight out. Also, some Hondata dyno tuning from JEImportPerformance.com. I'm shooting for MARRS 1 at Summit Point, April 23. I'll develop the car in MARRS before I compete in National races next year. How about running slicks on a front wheel driver? That should be interesting.

I thought the EP suspension rules were quite a bit more open than GAC?

Maybe not in limited prep? Either way, kick ***. The spring rates necessary for the slicks should be pretty big numbers that you can come on here to wow people with.

Have you changed out the glass for polycarbonate? There are several places I've seen listed that make full replacement for the whole car. There was quite a claimed weight reduction. For the doors, how much weight is there really to lose with fiberglass versus completely gutted skins? Have you ripped out the wiring harness and only kept the parts you need? Are you allowed to cut off all the assorted brackets and tabs that don't do anything on a race car? Do you have to use factory suspension parts or can you use aftermaket aluminum control arms and suspension uprights? Aluminum bodied shocks?

Dennis's car would do 1:24's easy at summit in GAC trim... That thing would be in 1:21's in EP...

Just got the lexan rear window the other day. Not sure how much wight I'll save on the doors, but that seems like a moderate gain. Yes, you can cut out all non-essential tabs, brackets, etc. Will also take out the Petty bar from the roll cage. The dash will be a huge reduction. Still have the heater core in there. The fiberglass dash I have on order will only hold 4 gages. Not sure about suspension pieces, will look into that too.

Crack Monkey,
SCCA has assigned the car as Limited Suspension. Meaning you can't move any suspension components, so very much like GAC rules. At least they didn't outlaw my triple Motons like in ITS rules.

Hmmm, is this the same yellow ITR that I've seen at Summit from time to time?

Looking at the Production Specs, restricted suspension section, alternate control arms are allowed (I assume with stock geometry, but it doesn't say?), bushing material is unrestricted, all mounting points may be reinforced.

Not sure if that differs at all from the GAC rules.

I believe it can't vary from the stock geometry. It is is the "restricted suspension" section which pertains to Limited Prep vehicles.

Where/When did you find the minimum weight?
In Jan SCCA Sportscar Tech bulletin had the min weight as 2225lbs w/driver....

I have also looked into running EP this year....again getting the weight down is the thing....
I have one of the King Motorsport ITR's that I got from Will Nonnamaker....

In the Az region (SoPac) at PIR the "fast" EP cars are doing 1:09's the best my ITR has done is 1:10:9 (Practice) and consistant qualifying in the low 1:11's at 2575lbs(w/driver) with the stock GAC legal motor/H2 motor that came in the car on Toyo's. I now have a new motor in the car and have removed about 75lbs. I still need a glass trunk and plexi-glass.

I am curious about how much time might picked up with slicks?

Does anyone have any recommendations on the brand of slicks?

Regards,

Sorry, I stand corrected. You are right. I had read the GCR (Production Catergory) but the Fastrack in Jan has an update to 2225.

Ahhh, ..... but the GSR can be 2090 with driver........hmmm...maybe that is why I switched to EP already. Limited Prep is giving some life to a few forgotten ITS cars.
Slicks will give another sec or two I think.......Hoosiers, 23x8.50x15 or 23x9.5 x15. The 23x8.50x15 are a better choice I believe though. If you need em I got em ....

You might want to check the rules again before you replace the doors. I don't think you can replace the doors with fiberglass ones.

Matt - do you mean this one?

That's one of Steve Colletti's old GAC ITR's. It's actually for sale right now (he's building a GAC ST RSX-R) if anyone else is interested in buying an old GAC ITR for limited prep EP useage. Personally, I think it would be fun as hell!

Re-reading the rules again I believe autorex is correct. I don't see anywhere in the rules that says you can replace the doors with fiberglass or any other material.
