When installing an aftermarket ECU, does one have to do upgrade anything else? (pistons, cams, springs, etc.) ive heard of people just installing ECU and just calling it a day..along with your basic mods (intake, header, exhaust) ...but ive also heard that you will have to change cams..pistons..etc ...whats the word? ...and whats a good ECU to go with? ..

you dont' have to change anything.....

HOWEVER.....

if you get the mugen ecu, then i suggest you get all other mugen parts, intake snorkle, header, and exhaust
if you get the spoon ecu, then i suggest you get all other spoon parts, intake snorkle, header, and exhuast..

this is because these ecu's are programed and tuned to match with other products in their catalog.... so if they claim an extra 10-20rwhp with the ecu, they mean you'll get those gains only if you have their products on the car not some other mix and matched products that you put on the car yourself...

Youll get more hp from each extra part thats added along with the ecu. What are you trying to accomplish?

You dont need a standalone or piggy back ECU unless you are running 8 psi or higher with different injectors. The Comptech ESM is fine. You might see a few hp gain if you run a standalone anyway with some propper tuning.

i have a question that deals with the same idea..

Does anyone have a AEM EMS with a stock S or one with just a cat-back or intake, small bolt-ons... did you see a difference in tuning?

thanks in advance

^ 15-16whp on a stock S is what i have seen with aem ems and a good tuner. that alone sorta makes it worth its price considering what bolt on's give you

i think it's worth it... cause think about it .... when you get other bolt ons you'll get even more power..

yes, say you want higher boost. then stand alone ecu is highly recommended

yes once you start doing extra modifications to the supercharger, you're going to want an ems...

necessity and "good enough" are subjective. Running a FMU that boosts your fuel pressure over 100psi might work fine, but I don't prefer that system.

for info on the AEM EMS, go to aem's website. http://www.aempower.com they have a msg board dedicated to the EMS that show's a stock s2k running only a intake with GOOD gains tuned via the EMS. The power is there, just needs tuning.

AEM is the best unit for a boosted S right now. If you go to 9 psi definitly invest in it and some larger injectors. You could also get away with an Emanage, which is what Im tring to do.
